And I'll tell you why:

- open world is trash, having 3 separate zones for different levels of infection is lame, why not one continuous level?

-Heller is a boring generic protagonist, with no redeeming qualities.

-They ruined Alex Mercer by making him into some nihilistic asshole who wants everyone to be infected. Also changed his voice actor.

-Mercer's backstory is relegated to a fucking comic. Why does he go bad, you ask? Because a girl he was crushing on killed him for money after he went on a sightseeing tour to find the good left in the world or whatever dogshit. Fucking WHAT?!??!

-NO ARMOR MODE WTF?!?!?!

-Missions were repetitive.

-Environments looked worst than P1 somehow

-Story sucked

-FUCK THIS GAME

I didn't even buy this game, I got it for free on Launch. And I felt ripped off.

And they REMOVED THE BEST DEFENSIVE MODE! Instead of improving the shield, they removed armor entirely. So God damn lame.

And the new addition wasn't even fun. They just needed to add on new, unique powers. Otherwise, just let us play fucking Mercer again.

Disagree. But I don't care enough to defend it. I'll just say, neither of the Protags were super deep but for some reason people only decide to point out Heller. I mean, you pointed out things about Alex being not deep, but you took a point from Heller in the beginning like he followed up something better. It's a dumb fun game. Not every protag has to be deep.

It's incredible that the first Prototype ends with the revelation that Alex Mercer was a selfish prick who tried to use Manhattan as his own personal shield; in contrast to ZEUS being willing to sacrifice himself to protect Manhattan from being nuked. To the point where the entire moral of the first Prototype is that the inhuman virus is more humane than the man it thought itself to be.

And then in an offscreen comic, ZEUS decides humanity isn't worth saving because a girl he liked tried to scam and murder him. Note that in the first game, ZEUS absorbed some nutjob ass scientists and has seen the worst of what humanity has to offer before he decided to potentially give his existence to stop the nuke.

Character assassination at its finest.

Alex had a decent journey with some nice twists in Prototype 1, and the story had an interesting plot hidden within the WOI that gave it a clear end goal. He was fun, had a cool design, and was pretty unique in that he was the villain and the hero, I liked his story. Not that he was particularly deep, he didn't have to be though. He had a good amount going for him. I just really enjoyed him and his journey as protagonist.

Heller is just generic, boring, and added nothing to the story. It was a generic plot with a plot device daughter. Which is sad, because I did love his design(and thought his VA did a great job).

He actually detracted from the story, honestly, considering it dropped the Pariah storyline entirely in favor for his cookie cutter storyline that did nothing for the series. That and the whole of making Alex a bad guy just...ruined all that the game before was leading up to.

Too bad we never got a third game where we discover getting consumed by Heller was Mercers plan the entire time as he continues his path to godhood.

Remember when even his former GF turned out to have tried to get him killed and screwed him over? Kim iirc.

Literally the same situation, and his response was revenge. Not edgelord 'oh no, world isn't worth saving' bullshit.

And ffs, PARIAH IS STILL A THING! Did Alex just forget all the memories he absorbed or something? He made it pretty clear he cared about Dana still as well, and then we never even get to see them interact on-screen again.

The first game was so damn fun. I loved how I could take the form of a random soldier and just tag along with a platoon and help them clean up a bunch of infected areas. Not as an actual mission or anything, it was just a random event going on that you didnt have to involve yourself in at all but could anyway just for fun

That could be interesting, and could cancel out this bullshit that Alex turned evil because humanity wasn't worth it or whatever.

I never understood why they even skipped past Alex as the main character. The writers before straight up handed the storyline of the next game over to the devs on a silver platter and then the devs are like 'hmm...nah, let's make Alex evil and introduce generic military man with his generic daughter!'.

Dumb as shit. The entire game I was thinking 'damn, there's gonna be some massive plot twist at the end'. But nope.

I remember seeing an ad for it and adding it to my wish list on Steam several years ago. Never got around to getting it or playing it. Hadn't even heard of Prototype 1 when I saw the ad for 2. At this point, I lost interest.

I'd give Prototype 1 a chance, it's pretty cheap and a lot of fun, graphics are a bit dated though.

I never got that comparison.

Prototype is more or less a power fantasy. You shove cars aside by running into them, you split things apart by slicing through them, Mercer is a powerhouse of speed, strength, agility, and his whole shtick is that he has incredible power.

InFamous is very reliant on Cole being strong, a cut above the rest, but still physically on par with normal people. Plus his powers are more ranged. And there is a LOT more platforming.

Is it because they're both superhero fantasies?

It pretty much did. Alex has...

- no real interactions with Dana
- different voice actor
- new personality
- new goals

All set him apart from Prototype 1 Alex.

Ffs, the game talks about Pariah so much as you gather more WoI. It was legitimately a lot of shit you wouldn't know unless you actively consumed. And...ugh, it just disappointed me so much.

One of my favorite things to do in 1 was Armor up with the Shield and roll through civilians like a bowling ball.

But the sequel was still okay enough to play. I definitely wasn't invested in the story or anything like that, I see it like no more heroes where the game's story is just a flimsy excuse to screw around, nothing more.

I'd say infamous had the better story at the time but that isn't true either

You glided, and didn't fly. But the game was solid, imo. Had a nice story, fun gameplay, that's all you need.
