Honestly am tired and frustrated as hell that retail stores and restaurants are always understaffed because people are too lazy to work because of that $300 boost

People should get back to work already

Seems like people are wising up to the notion that those jobs absolutely suck and arent compensated for them nearly as well as they should be.

It has been annoying so many places are understaffed and nobody is available to help me.

But also people have finally realized minimum wage jobs aren't worth their time and I love it.

Somehow I get the feeling in the coming weeks retail job pay is going to get even lower yet the prices will still go up because prices always go up.

Bullshit. I literally do not know anyone that is still on unemployment. People just dont want to work retail anymore. Pay is shit and theyre being put on the front lines while underpaid so rich assholes can get richer.

Can't really blame corporations either, they're doing what they do to maximize their profits and if understaffing and not enforcing restrictions nets the higher profits isn't it wrong to blast them for abusing their workers for it? It's almost like society demands there be a bottom rung of people to exploit and take advantage of to keep thriving for the ones who are smart and or lucky enough not to be in their position.

What? No. Thats what has been told to us and people just dont want change.

We do not HAVE to live like this though. There is plenty of money for everyone to get paid. $15 should be minimum. Thats completely feasible. Corporations do not have to abuse workers to survive.

100% blame corporations. I dont feel bad for them. If you have bad working conditions you deserve to lose staff. Good businesses arent having staffing issues because they retain employees.

Plenty of people want change it's just they don't matter and are powerless to enact it only the rich decide where this country goes and they want it to go where they get more wealth and while it's true corporations don't have to be fucking assholes they make more money being complete assholes so why not keep going up the asshole list since nobody can do anything about it anyway?

Most retail and food is not run by corporations. They're run by small business owners. Corporate places like Walmart, Amazon, Target and a few others should be blasted because they have the backing of the corporation.

Everything else is franchised. It's no different than Sony having Spider-Man's license but Disney owning it. Sony is not gonna ask Disney to fund their Spider-Man projects because they have no obligation to. Sure, they can work out a deal where Disney would help, like with merchandise, but in return they'll want something back. Corporations are not responsible for the wages of franchised places.

McDonalds recently agreed to help franchisees by investing money into benefits. However, we have no clue at what cost that comes at from the franchisees. The food industry profit margins are like 5-10%. That's just not enough, which means they close up and the corporations buy everything up and monpolize. And seeing as Amazon did exactly that with retail and they haven't changed shit means we're not gonna be in a better place when the small guys are all gone.

Nope because people dont want to work.

You guys forget we are in an era where people dont have to have a traditional job. DoorDash, GrubHub, Amazon Flex, Instacart, Uber, etc. These are all services that require people to do these jobs full time. Our demand for those services skyrocketed during the pandemic. People started those jobs, realized they could make more money with less oversight. Theyre still supporting retail and restaurants but in different ways.

Consumers and businesses are also to blame. If online shopping demand goes up then there has to be resources devoted to that and businesses havent figured out how to balance both yet IMO. Customers are also just assholes. People dont want to deal with it. Be mad at them because everyones knows a couple people that are assholes in public settings.

They withhold a higher % for bonuses, you don't get taxed differently on it when you file your tax return.

Workers shouldnt have to do that. People should just treat them with the same respect they treat anyone else. People dont go off on police officers, dentists, accountants. They give them a basic level of respect for the most part. Retail and restaurant workers dont get that.

On top of that is the fact that businesses dont pay them a lot of money. In tipping positions there are a lot of people that believe they shouldnt have to tip so they get fucked on that end.

Its really just not an appealing position.
