Desireee Castaneda from Oklahoma was arrested aftre she let her 12 y/o daughter date and get PREGNANT by her 24 y/o BOYFRIEND who is now arrested as well!!

Juan Miranda-Jara was arrested at the hospital when he brought her in.

He is now charged with rape of a minor after he told police he had been in a "relationship" with the child since october

The investigation revealed the girl's mother and family members were aware of the relationship and they PERMITTED it as phots of them together throwing a baby shower were posted on their FB

She is now charged with child neglect and enabling child sex abuse

The child and her newborn are now in care and doing well while the father is in prison

Police were alerted when doctors at Hilcrest Medical Centre called police on what they had learned

Miranda PROUDLY declared he was the father of the child when his gf was about to deliver and seemed confused as to why officers were called to the hospital

Danny Bean, a Tulsa officer said they walked in just like any other couple would and excited to deliver their newborn and thought their situation was "kinda fine".

The age of consent is 16 in Oklahoma and despite her young age, the 12 y/o delivered a healthy baby daughter who was later released

They didn't say how he got in contact with teh girl nor why she was allowed to have sexual relations with a man twice her age

Do you find it suspicious that nobody knew this girl was pregnant for almost a year?

When I was in middle school there was a girl who always claimed to be pregnant, but in reality she was just fat.

It's not that weird that no one noticed, but is it racist that I see their pictures and wondering if they were both immigrants who some how thought this was ok in the US?

Think its a coincidence. But a reminder hes nearing 50 and talks about 12 year olds should be ready for adulthood much younger with swagger like R. Kelly. Not to mention how he bullied and harassed Mead.

Just because a law is technically on the books doesn't necessarily mean it is regularly followed or enforced. There are absolutely certain cultural groups who look at this kind of thing completely differently than most Americans would. Really as far as things like this subject goes America is more on the prudish side, some of the states having the AOC at 18 would be ridiculous to most of the world's population. Like cultural norms are different between cultures, that's pretty unavoidable.

The one and only thing I'll grant you is that AOC is a completely arbitrary number that, rather than looking at person's development, only takes age into account. At the same time, there's really no easy, practical alternative. Yes, development will vary wildly per person. However, once you get all the way down to 12, you're kinda hitting a certain baseline that seems inappropriate in pretty much every context unless they have some Benjamin Button disease or something. However, if AOC were to be followed in a logical fashion -- since it's arguing physical, mental, and emotional maturity -- you'd probably be setting it (as well the drinking and voting age) closer to 25 (and you can make some very good arguments for setting the voting age at 25 since kids reach functional adulthood at a much later age now, although there's no way you'd really be able to enforce an alcohol restriction to that age because America's love affair with booze means it'd never be practical). But if you're just looking at physical development, then sure, the world's normal standard of around 16 is likely a conservative enough benchmark 90% of the time where a liberal benchmark would be probably be set closer to 14 (or maybe even 13), but not goddamn 12.

You don't need to grant me anything Zeus I'm just saying it like it is. Up until literally this year France for instance had no AOC law (it is now 15) and what Americans would consider pedophilia wasn't outright accepted there but they were pretty lax about it. There was a case a few years ago where the French government refused to charge two men who had sex with a 13 year old with a crime because the girl consented and there was no proof she was harmed by the event(their words, not mine mods). Japan is another example of a first world country that had set the "strike zone" much lower than we would be comfortable here. A decade ago you could buy videos there in public stores that would earn you a prison sentence here. Both countries are trying to change/cover up stuff like that but it is almost exclusively because of international pressure from the US, not because they suddenly decided something was wrong with their cultures.

There are regions that still have strong faith in religion and a reverence for virginity where child brides are a thing still and others where the woman (or little girl in this case) is supposed to basically just pump out babies and the issues that come up from teen pregnancy here aren't nearly as important. In the case in the OP I would bet that the main reason the mom was fine with it was because the man "took responsibility" and had the means/desire to care for the child and the... other child, so all was right with the world in her eyes. It just is like that some places even if 12 is still on the younger end.

Exactly as I said. In some cultures a man not taking care of a child he fathered would be seen as more scandalous/disgraceful than him fathering that child with a very young girl. There are plenty of context clues in this story to suggest something along those lines happened.

I'd say it's kind of racist to assume their immigrants yeah.

I have, however, been told first by someone born and raised in Mexico that those relationships aren't terribly uncommon. They had their first boyfriend at 14 while he was 25.
