On W2D2 now, having a good time. So far they've done a great job of making a worthy successor to the original while also putting in enough new twists to not feel like a rehash. Honestly still just surprised this is a real game and it's any good at all lol

I should be finishing Week 1 today (Been going slow and having to fight super-completionist urges) and I agree with all of this.

Yeah, OST-wise there's a lot more returning tracks than I expected and they kind of steal the show from the new tracks for the most part. I think the NEO mixes do a better job with alternate versions than Final Remix, too. Not big into some of the rock covers but stuff like the funk remix of 3 Minutes Clapping is great.

It's just really hard to top the original's soundtrack tbqh

Yes. The only super memorable OG track I haven't heard yet is Twister but they're obviously saving that for something near the end of the game.

I'm nearing the end of week 2, currently.

The only real criticism I have of the game is that the new main cast doesn't feel as compelling character development wise as the original main cast. They're not bad, overall, but they just feel like they have less going on with them.

This might change as I get toward the end of the game however, who knows.

Other than that the game is literally everything I wanted out of a TWEWY sequel.

I'm a fan of Rindo, though I generally agree. Fret and Nagi are fine but I don't think I like them as much as I did some of the other major characters from the original like Shiki or Joshua. Rindo also doesn't seem to be as good as Neku, though that has more to do than anything else with Neku being one of my favorite characters.

I'm only at near the end of week 1 right now, but at the same time I feel like the original only needed about that amount of time to endear me to the characters.

This game does have a higher density of Minamimoto though which can only be a good thing.

Im on Day 5 and not sold on what theyre trying to do with Rindo yet, his I dont want to add anyone to the team and think Nagi is useless shtick doesnt seem justified in any way. At least with Neku even if his mistrust of others was unhealthy, it was believable. With Rindo it just seems arbitrary when you look at the rest of his personality.

Rindo's main personality traits seem to be that he's incredibly indecisive, pessimistic, and mostly introverted, which is where the mistrust stems from. But this changes when he turns back time and he gets a large confidence boost. He's kind of a weird character, and I dont know yet how much of it is intentional and how much of it is writing around that gameplay gimmick. So far he pales in comparison to Neku who went through two different arcs in two weeks, but that's probably unfair.

Fret and Nagi though, I do love. I'd put them under Joshua but above Shiki (who, let's face it, got a raw deal in the original). These two have a good dynamic and I like how the setup of the Game allows them to have a core cast this time around. (W2D3 spoilers) I do also like how different party members have different relationships with the 4th spot and how Fret and Beat were able to immediately become friends

I can't really deny that the returning cast are spotlight stealers though. Every time someone shows up I start pointing at the TV like the Leonardo DiCaprio meme

Ok I lied Last Call is really cool, at least in context anyway.

Also generally agree that Rindo's mistrust mainly stems from things like indecision and pessimism. I'd say whereas Neku's fundamental character flaw was a deep seated mistrust and refusal to open up to others, with Rindo it's more like a fear of change and a refusal to risk upsetting the status quo.

Finished the main game, still got the post game (Another Day + Secret Reports) to go through.

Was very happy with the ending and last few days overall. I have a few minor problems/questions with the plot but I imagine the secret reports will address some of that like they did in the original.

Overall while I think there are some things the original did better and some things Neo did better, the games are seriously straight up the same quality to me. I don't think I could put one over the other. Which is absolutely fine by me. More TWEWY is what I wanted and more TWEWY is what I got.

Beat it last night. What a wonderful game! Not to echo previous thoughts but it's very impressive how they made a sequel to a game I thought would be impossible to make a sequel to in this way, and had it feel fresh and familiar all at once. They really nailed the feeling.

The new characters do come into their own eventually, although Rindo remains my least favorite of them. The plot, like the original, is mostly serviceable but it's a lot of fun. Also like the original, I expect the bulk of the TRUE plot to be delivered via the Secret Reports, of which I have very few.

The biggest flaws I can think of are QOL issues (the menuing, no gear sets for cloths, no fast travel), and the combat has some weird difficulty spikes, but other than that I think the game perfectly accomplishes what it's trying to do.

Just beat the game this morning and I'm overall very satisfied. I still think the original is better but this was still a good game and I'm pretty happy.

It feels like about half of the psychs in this game are completely worthless. With how big battle areas are there's no way a Time Bomb is ever gonna be reliable except against the elephants. Drift Tackle and Swift Strike are impossible to control, and Kinesis is way too slow to do anything with. I also generally avoid any psych where the Beatdrop requires a random thing to happen, though that I'll at least tolerate if it's a good pin.

Yeah the shields in particular feel really useless. Especially since you can just dodge most the attacks.

On a separate note, I'm working on the Platinum right now and the grind is insane. I'm honestly impressed with how much fun I'm still having, although I'm doing it in like the most inefficient way possible, and really just need to reach Level 99 and get better stats, before continuing some of the harder stuff

Some of the late game kinesis pins are pretty okay IMO. If you get something big like a bus it can knock enemies around super easily. I never had a problem with drift tackle, but swift strike and shields are garbage yeah.

The three grindy trophies are reaching level 100, mastering 300 pins, and defeating 6000 noise right?

The 6000 noise is the grindiest one right? I'm at least halfway for the levels and pins but I don't even have the 3000 noise trophy yet.

I got 3000 noise during the last series of story battles and got to 6000 towards the tail end of my endgame grind.

I dont think the grind was TOO terrible, but I had been making sure to rotate my pins frequently during the main story and was maybe halfway/two-thirds of the way there on pin collection and mastery when I finished. It still dragged a bit. You end up killing tons of noise and getting lots of EXP while grinding out money anyways so there is some ability to multitask.

Also yeah the lategame kinesis pins kick ass, lots of damage and crowd control. The shields, chains, and time bombs are the pins I despised leveling. Some of the bombs and chains are quite good but they're so unreliable, awful on bosses and big noise, and there are just so many better options for those buttons.

Not too slow if you know what you're doing, however it's a particularly annoying setup.

The best way I found was to grind the highest tier of pufferfish on Ultimate, which have 100,000 yen pins as a rare drop. So this means you have to go to Cat Street and chain EVERY noise (including the rare blue noise) which gets you a 15 chain. Gets you about 1.5 mil/chain. Obnoxious because the explosions on those things can one-shot the group if you're not careful or just unlucky and have multiple people get hit.

Really sucks when a boss just doesn't get moved by any psychs so you can't even build up groove since so many triggers are based on hitting a wall or getting tossed in the air or slamming the ground

I just beat Another Day yesterday and gave the secret boss a try on ultimate difficulty. I got destroyed pretty hard haha, should try again when I have the Black Cat ensemble. Gonna focus on finishing up my collection first.

Oh my fucking god there is so much padding in this final day. I was planning on finishing tonight but this shit has been going for like two hours over what I expected. I was gonna just push through it and wrap it all up before going to bed but I just reached "oh, we went back in time to ask Coco to help Rhyme meet Kaie but NOW we need to go back in time AGAIN and find somebody else to do that and THEN Coco will help Shiki instead" and this is so insulting that I'm done for the night. I like the story, but this is just disrespectful of my time at this point. I'm sure it'll turn out that I'm like five minutes away from the ending, but fuck it I'm actually mad now. This is EXACTLY what I was talking about in the last post.

I didn't find the time travel stuff bad at all. It's mostly used for lore and never really takes very long. I prefer it to throwing in a million more "bring me this pin" or "beat x noise" bits like the original was full of.

The thing about Rindo is that he is quite possibly fiction's least efficient time traveler. And that's kind of amusing and makes for decent drama if you're willing to play along but can also get frustrating. There is a lot of really obvious stuff you'll immediately register as something you'll need to change, and Rindo doesn't care until he has to actually do it either due to indifference or indecision. It gets pretty bad on the last day.

The voice was several tones higher compared to the original. Granted there werent that many lines in the original so it wasnt a voice they spent a lot of time with and its been over a decade

Did they bring back the original voice actors for the original cast? It's been a long time so I honestly can't really tell from the acting alone. I thought they just recasted everyone except for Minamimoto.

And the original actor who got recast there still voices another character and returns for that role, so it's still 100% returning cast.

Really cool that they did that even if some of the actors were clearly out of practice. The only ones I really had issue with were Beat, whose updated voice was a jarring at first but grew on me a lot, and Neku, whose voice actor had been completely retired from VA work since DDD

So the Secret Report criteria are just hidden this time, or have I not unlocked something that tells you how to get them?

All you have to do is defeat the blue boss noise symbol on each day. You do have to unlock a FP skill for that first. Some days don't have a boss noise, and those are unlocked as you max out the social network.

Here's a full list, I used this to help he hunt down the noise. Most of the bosses are in the area where the chapter begins, so it's pretty straight forward to get.

After you a unlock a specific Social Link you can find them as Blue Boss Noises at the start of the day.
