So...you're saying I should continue to hold off playing Outer Wilds...

Looks like procrastination and the never ending backlog win again!

Nobody should hold off on playing Outer Wilds by playing games inferior to Outer Wilds (which is all of them).

In other words: play it

If 10/10 games exist, this is surely one of them. Absolutely can't wait to see what this expansion has in store.

This game really does not need an expansion, everything in the galaxy is so intricately connected to everything else. I can't seem them phoning this in though so I am really curious to see what this will end up being.

Yeah IDK what this could be, but I don't see why they make this unless they feel they've got something worthwhile to add to it. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's not the kind of game where DLC feels obligatory.

Outer Wilds is the game I'm saddest I don't like. I adore the concept and the story but the finicky controls coupled with one bad jump breaking my legs and wasting the last ten minutes getting somewhere ruined it for me. I wanted to explore but none of the areas were actually fun to explore.

Still, it'd be neat to have new areas if they were more fun puzzles like Quantum Tower and less hallways inexplicably full of cacti to waste an hour of my time trying to get through.

They introduced it on stream by saying "you probably have questions like 'how?' and 'why?' Those are good questions." and then playing the trailer so yes, I think they are very self-aware about this

The trailer is purposely cryptic but it does show snippets of random areas while hinting at the main conceit of what it's supposed to be about. The video description also indicates some of the premise and how it will be implemented in-game. I think it's fine but if you have to ask I would probably err on just not watching it.

Part of me doesn't want this because of how perfectly crafted Outer Wilds is. It's just hard to imagine living up to it or adding something worthwhile there.

But I will be thrilled if this proves me wrong.

I'll echo the thoughts in here about having a really hard time imagining how this fits in with the game, but believing they wouldn't do this without a good concept

The end of the game would be so much less stressful if you did.

Which would dramatically hurt the game.

Nah I love those things! I mean I hate them but they instilled such a fear in me, more than most horror games can claim lol.

I will agree with Roba that the cacti were a little too dangerously placed sometimes though.

See, I love Outer Wilds, it was my GOTY for 2019. But I finished and got all the achievements and it's no longer on Games Pass, so I'd have to buy it and this DLC, just to play the DLC.

Which I might do...think I need to see how much the DLC adds.

Holy shit I never thought we'd see this, especially so soon. I wonder how much content there is.

Also I get the sentiment that the original is perfect and should be left alone. But I can't imagine finishing the game and not immediately thinking I NEED MORE. It's a really good structure to add more, really. Could easily have bi-yearly sequels with totally different stories. Would be way better than a bunch of Assassin's Creeds.

Also the sensitive controls and danger are totally necessary to make the game feel more real and physical. It's a game about physics after all. If navigation was really easy then the game would essentially be an elaborate sudoku. That's worth losing a few mins here and there.

the game's a really neat puzzle box

my only real complaint is that in order to fully beat the game without cheating by looking up hints online, you'd have to spend a LOT, LOT, LOT of time searching through areas that might be red herrings or dead ends

once the game actually starts (after about 30 minutes of playing), the next, i dunno, 8 to 10 hours are really neat. you can kind of explore anywhere and expect to learn something new/find a new clue. once that starts drying up it becomes more frustrating

Dang it's no longer on Game Pass? Looks I'll be buying this game twice then! I bought it recently for my brother for his birthday but never actually owned it myself, since I played through Game Pass. I have no problem forking over money for this masterpiece.

This is only 2 months away? Absolute hype.

I don't know if I agree? My playtime was around 20ish hours which I seem to recall looking average and I didn't look anything up. The game gives you a map of info youve found, with links,, which prods you in the right direction

There were a few points that were frustrating because even if knew you what task you needed to do, actually executing that required seemingly arbitrary motion in order to register, but I didn't ever feel like I was searching for information and not finding it.

The only part that stumped me was a part in the ending sequence where I figured out all the hard bits but was too stupid to properly operate a button.

It's less that because I do want more, but also I have the understanding that the initial playthrough of the game is impossible to replicate. You can't do "Outer Wilds 2" now that I know all the tricks the first game used and have the same effect unless you create some bizarro alien physics engine. You can get some value out of it though, which is good enough to me.

I got annoyed by the end parts and watched them on YT because of it. Would've definitely enjoyed it more with them having a lesser presence. I got by them on my first try for the earlier part without any problems, but then for the ending stuff I couldn't do it for some reason.

I think the only bit I had to look up was when I was getting all the info for the achievements, because I couldn't figure one out - the one where you have to talk to the same guy multiple times across the day.

Oh, and I had to watch a video to see the technique for getting on the Sun Station the difficult way.

i supposed the concept of a "lot" is subjective. another 10 hours would have felt like a lot to me, given that i already pretty much knew what i had to do and which planets i needed to search for the last clues

some of those planets are biiiiiig

and i guess nobody told me that there were only specific points on the planets that stuff could be

You can get pretty close with this knowledge exploration gameplay structure though. More reductively, if you think of it as Majora's Mask 2, you could totally have Majora's Mask 3. It's just extremely hard to make a game like this, which is why it's rare. But any game like this is gonna be effective.

Like if they make a hello kitty game in this format, you would love hello kitty by the end (someone plz make this btw)

Yeah I never bothered to do this lol, seemed awful. I did look at a guide after I beat the game for the achievement for getting 100% of the information or whatever it was, I'd only missed a handful of them which felt nice.
