This is step one. Time to get used to those grey and black screen Tiger Electronics handhelds again! Get your little drug store batteries and screwdrivers ready. Hell, we might just have to go back to boardgames. Batteries may be too much!

"High end" makes it sound like you can still get a more than adequate one. I don't like the framing as gaming PCs but if it nips at crypto miners then good.

Maybe we wouldn't need these kind of regulations if we weren't decades behind where we could be on green energy from denying climate science. And I'm not saying I like it but some things are more important than silly gaming rigs

tbh, when I saw that as a source, my first thought was "I'm going to want an actual source for this claim."

They'll definitely do something. I'm starting to see YouTube videos made by 80s Batman street thug types living in messy apartments making crypto tutorials.

The authorities will make what they're doing illegal somehow. I'm sure they'll start trying to jack into power supplies and lines. I have a feeling we're going to lose a lot of personal freedom in the next 20 years. Maybe everyone living in pods and eating protein(bugs) bars while the ruling class runs away with all the money lol.

I just hope we get to choose which flavor. I'm partial to beetles myself. I don't like roaches.

Based on the screenshot of the tweet, I would assume they mean just the prebuilts, you will still be able to buy parts piecemeal. All that means is you have to build your own now, which means it will be infinitely better then whatever Dell was doing.

I see this as an absolute win.

I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I'd be perfectly fine playing the 2 to 3 gen-ago Kemco rpg/sim games on low power console. I never cared for amazing graphics. I still like FF6 better than most all the later FFs after it. Hell, I still read books.

A coronal mass ejection.

Of course that would kill the modern economy period, wiping out all electronics and sending us back to the age of steam, (if we're lucky) and it would take decades to rebuild back to where we are now (if at all) so crypto would be essentially dead.

A hard cap of electricity consumption per person would go a long way. Obviously, that idea needs some nuance, but if you basically say "you get X kWh per employee/customer on site per day," mining ops that draw absurd amounts of power while having a tiny handful of employees and no customers would fall apart. That limit would probably have to be set high enough that individuals could get away with using their personal computer for mining whenever they weren't using it, and that would make cryptojacking a lot more appealing, but the death of larger-scale mining ops would put a pretty giant dent in the market.

Ah yes, because hobbyists playing on high-end PCs totally have a noticable impact on power usage and the environment. It's them we should be regulating, not the megacorps who use thousands more.

Just like most places wont ship a ride on lawnmower to California because of exhaust regulations. The state that has smoky wildfires yearly is worried about the exhaust from a freaking lawnmower. *sigh*

TBH, given the chronic drought conditions, nobody in California should have a lawn anyway. Not a grass one, at least, and lower-water options don't need mowing.

Also, I meant this as in the entirety of what they do is stupid, not the name of it. I recall someone fawning over them at one point, and I checked out one of their Jeffrey Epstein posts. Typical garbage, except there were a lot of extreme anti-semites in the comments. When I pressed them, they started quoting Hitler. Wasn't cool. Disclose.tv is typical conspiracy clickbait gutter-trash.

Proof of work crypto needs to die due to the effect on the environment. There's a place for crypto that doesn't exist solely to convert pollution into income, though.
