Do they actually think there is any chance you get fired?

I mean, it has happened, so there is a chance. It all depends on the context of the situation.

Most people who say that, have already done it a few times.

Sadly it's not that rare for employees to get fired because of customer complaints.

I dont have the link but my favorite vid is some Karen on a plane complaining about her seat and threatened the stewardesss job with her status as some gov assistant. The stewardess bans her from the flight and the instant karma reaction is awesome.

Uh... I've never heard of it working. I'm not talking about legitimate complaints here.

Its always possible but no Ive never felt like it was a credible threat

when working retail or a service industry you do your very best to make people happy but there are gonna be times where there are problems you cant fix or people that arent gonna change their mind

Then it's a misleading topic, since people say that during legitimate complaints. And the fact that people do get fired after complaints on a regular basis makes them believe it.

And, beyond that, we've seen internet trolls go after peoples' jobs so it happens with some regularity.

The only time I've ever heard people say it is when they are threatening people to try and get their way when they are in the wrong. Typically when someone is wrong the person acts shocked and just goes "what?" and walks away because it's so bizarre to be treated that way and then gets the person fired later.

I really don't see how it's misleading? This is more of the "Karen" type comment, I don't really see how it could be taken any other way?

I've never heard anyone say it. I could've said it to a guy that was verbally abusive every day that we caught having sex in an office on-the-clock, but I preferred to just get it done (getting him fired).
