Has a vibe akin to an A24 film. To say it's obtuse for the average player to get into is frankly an understatement, combined with the admittedly slow gameplay and method of plot delivery. Still, its world is undeniably inviting, its mysteries enticing, its atmosphere frightening, with dark introspective horror straight from the pages of Lovecraft, with the final twist of the game fitting neatly into that framework. It's an ambitious story but once again I have to say it's delivered in a clunky fashion that holds it back from being one of the greats.

Excellent take on the subgenre, with its mini-murder-mysteries almost always grabbing me. Its puzzles are interesting and unique, and always reflect the story, and an endgame twist that's... Ambitious, to say the least

Not quite on the level of Edith Finch and Gone Home but still great

I'm not sure how I'd want an FFXIV day to be done. I think the best way would be to get four ratings for ARR and the three expansions? Rating it as a whole doesn't really make sense when it's not all out.

Gonna say 4.5/10 here - I think the story is told very well but it does something I really dont like and makes the whole setup largely irrelevant and achieves its key plot twist mainly by lying.

Still a good game though, the story just rubbed me the wrong way.

On FFXIV, I think with live games we just need to accept that things will change. After all, everyone can change their votes whenever they want. I largely think we should do these games so WoW can get its one day.

I think FFXIV should be done by expansion. There's a massive difference between them. And each expansion's story is about the length of any standard single-player JRPG. They have a plot thread but each one's main arc is mostly standalone.

Ill do it the same way as the similar games that have been done so far - the base game snd expansions as well as an overall score.

i've played it but i don't usually rate here because isolating a game's story to rate independently just isn't how i view games, but since you asked...

if this game's story was a movie or a book i'd have no interest in it. very low rating. like 2 or 3.

in the context of it being a vehicle to support the gameplay, mystery, exploration, i'd say like a 6 or something. not super gripping, but held my attention and kept me invested.

i guess that counts as a 6, if you want more votes.
