Do you think these large conservative anti-vaxx people will ever come around to getting the vaccine?

Christy Carpenter from Alabama said she firmly believed that COVID-19 was a HOAX and now REGRETS not getting her family vaccinated after it killed her 28 y/o Autistic Son!!

She said it was only after her son, Curt became seriously ill and then she and her daughter caught the virus who now realize the importance of getting the vaccine

He died in early May, 2 months after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and spent his last weeks on a ventilator

She said "It took watching my son die and me suffering the effects of Covid for us to realize we need the vaccine. We did not get vaccinatd when we had the opportunity and regret that so much now. It took years to create other vaccines and the coronavirus vaccine was created very quickly. That made us very nervous"

Curt was a young and otherwise healthy man who got the virus and then his mother and younger sister got it back in March. They initially had ild symptoms and appeared to be getting better but a week later, both the mom and her son's oxygen levels dropped and were rushed to hospital after developing penumonia and Curt was put on a ventilator where his lung also collapsed that led to his organs shutting down.

Her son's last haunting towards to her on his death bed was "This is not a hoax, this is real"

Cases are on the rise in Alabama where it had one of the lowest vaccination rates as well with just 33.9% being fully vacinated.

She does not want others to repeat her mistake and hopes that Curt's death will remind people of the importance of vaccination.

Christy says "If Curt were here today, he would make it his mission to encourage everyone to get vaccinated. Cayla, his sister, and i are carrying out that mission in his memory. If we can help keep people healthier and possibly save lives by encouraging others to take the vaccine, then Curt's death was not in vain"

Curt lived life to the fullest who enjoyed Pokemon, trains, video games and frogs

Do you think these large group of conservative anti-vaxxers will ever come around to getting the vaccine?

Conservative propaganda has done it's damage. The antivax narrative spun by Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity will stick. They can go on their shows and backpedal, but their moronic audience will just accuse them of selling out to liberals. Nothing will turn this around in places like this except mass COVID deaths. And that's pretty sad.

Unfortunately it's known that carrying excess weight is a risk factor for serious covid 19 complications.

It truly saddens me that anyone actually believes that covid is a hoax.

Family members dying still isn't enough in some cases. I can't feel bad for any of these people after all the cautionary tales of skeptics being devastated. How many more stories do they have to see of "Shit I thought it was a hoax until I ended up near death in hospital" before it sinks in.

I came here to make a snarky comment about antivaxxers, autism, and vaccinations. Then I saw a picture and it made them all to real. I feel bad now.

I'm past the point of having any sympathy for anyone stupid enough to believe this is some kind of global conspiracy or hoax after a year and a half, countless deaths, hospitals being overrun, and society slowing to a crawl. I don't enjoy stories like this by any means, but at this point I just see it as Darwinism at work.

Yep. At this point, the only reason anyone's changing their mind and getting vaccinated is because they personally experience a Covid-related loss. The remaining hold-outs are just too invested in the belief that the personal risk from Covid is lower than that of the vaccine, and that won't change until that risk is personally realized.
