I'd rate it higher than ff but unfortunately as much as I liked the game the dbz art style is a turn off. I definitely like it better than 6 though. But not 4. 4 is best to me

4 is great, but ff6 has a better system, so much better it makes the game easy and the jobs in 5 are pretty cool

secret of mana is a good game, the SNES one, not the remake
illusion of gaia is also really good

breathe of fire is good, it's jus kinda grindy even playing with a emulator doesn't take that edge off

6s story and cast of characters didnt appeal to me and neither did the atmosphere.

5 definitely has best gameplay to me thanks to the job system but its story and cast of characters are largely forgetable

Ehhh. I really SHOULD like Chrono Trigger: I grew up on Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy and love both. I'm also a sucker for good music, and CT has several strong tracks.

Buuut...I didn't play it when it came out. I tried to go back several times and it just never grabbed me. I didn't find either the battle/leveling system or the characters/storyline to be deep enough to engage me outside of a couple segments (Frog, etc). I WANTED to like it, but I find it merely OK.

I'm wrong, I know.

The problem is that it's going on 30 years old and you can only play it so many times in your life without getting bored.
Also it's the only game I have never heard talked about as being "perfect".

How? You can't even finish the game the first time without a guide or hours and hours of trial and error.

You can beat it without a guide.

The trial and error thing was just how you played stuff like that back then. They specifically made the red candle to try and help with this too- Stopped having to try to burn a bush, exit the screen, return to the screen and burn the next bush. Etc etc x 1,000,000.

I finished it when I was like 7 without a guide. Unless you are counting the original documentation that came with it as a guide.

Yeah, with hours and hours of burning every bush and bombing every wall. That's why I said you can't beat it for the first time without a guide OR hours and hours of trial and error. Those are your two options if you're gonna beat the game for the first time and you don't know where things are.

Well, there used to be something called Nintendo Power. It wasn't really a "guide", per se...but it told you how to do the couple things you were less likely to figure out on your own (the repeating forest, the location of the Master Sword, etc). Most people enjoying Zelda either had NP or had a friend who did. Were you in that group?

Regardless of your answer, I'm not dumping on you: spending hours on trial and error wasn't unusual in the NES era...and when you discovered something after all of that work is was pretty awesome. That feeling of great discovery is more or less lost in today's RPGs.

Anyways, Zelda is a great NES game, but I would vote for LTTP as being closest to Zelda perfection.

WTH? Everyone finished it without a guide when it came out. Freaking great game. Had new game + as well. I literally used it to hone my reflexes as a kid (fighting those knights you could only hit from behind). Game was freaking gold. It and Wizardry Proving grounds were 2 of my "virgin" RPGs (Proving grounds was my dungeon crawler turn based first and Zelda was my action/rpg first.)

FF6 was freaking god rank. I still have not tried BNW, but I used to play FF6 (3) over every summer during the game drought along with the might and magic games, until Diablo II came out (and phantasy star online).

I really enjoyed Zelda II (and it's almost my favorite) but.....Zelda 1 was just amazeballs compared to any other game like it at that time.

You're the third person who thinks I said you can't beat the game without a guide. I said that for your first time through the game, you either do trial and error or you use a guide. There's no way in hell you're beating the game for the first time without learning things from a guide or spending hours and hours burning every bush and bombing every wall.
