Interesting way of telling a story, but it's a bit short and I don't think it hit the emotional notes for me that it was supposed to. I recognize the effort that was put into it though.

There are almost no video game stories that have done as much with as little as this game has. I think about this game at least once a week and have done so for years despite it being about 3 hours long. It made me cry, and laugh, and think, and feel, and contemplate the wrenching horror of a monotonously wasted life. About as perfect as a video game story could possibly be.

Yeah I have to give this one a 9/10 as well. At first I thought it might be lower but the more and more I reflected on it the more I realised just how much of an emotional impact it left on me even though it didnt feel like it at the time. I still think about the baby in the bathtub all the time. Of course the storytelling is excellent, some of the best ever, but after some thought the story itself really lands as well.

As Gothic as some of the best and most iconic stories by Henry James and Shirley Jackson. It uses its anthology format to great effect, as the player embodies each tragedy after tragedy in more depressive ways than the last, but also elements of black humor keep the player from guessing exactly where each story is going to lead, much like a series like Tales from the Crypt (and appropriately, a section is based exactly on the comics so no surprise there). It's horror not in the traditional sense, but horror repackaged to show the curse and monolithic inescapability of family lineage, one's own personal demons, and perfectly represents the hopelessness one can feel trapped in a hell of their own making. It's one of the most deeply affecting and emotionally valuable stories in all of gaming.

I feel like it spends a long time building towards a conclusion it never reaches. As a series of vignettes it's... okay, but I don't feel like most of the individual stories can stand on their own. Unfortunately by the end of the game it feels like they can't stand together either. I was pretty disappointed with this one.

I don't give out tens lightly, but a number of these stories have stuck with me. For gameplay, I would dock the game a bit, but for story alone, this story has incredible immersion and enough shock moments to be fantastic as long as you're willing to play the game at its pace. Which, tbh, isn't that long -- after finishing, I had a friend over and let them play through it in front of me. Once I got over the whole walking simulator thing, the game was just a series of discovery moments.

I get what he's trying to say. The ending is anticlimactic for me. I was expecting an emotional payoff and then it was abruptly dumped into my lap and the game was over.
