I hadn't heard of it until recently, but apparently the beta is pretty popular. What's it all about, would it be worth checking out?

Oh I read about the monetization and cash shop. Ehh no thanks. Also theres like no PvE content at launch, which is what Im all about. Why are people hyped for this? Because its not WoW?

How bad is the monetization?

So, the game is $40, with no subscription fee. That's actually not that bad. But it's the cash shop that's insane. Their official statement on the matter is "At launch, the cash shop will be cosmetic items only. Starting in the year 2022 we may offer level boosts, trade skill boosts, quality of life and convenience items" So they straight up said "hey, for the first six months the game is not pay to win. After that, anything goes" And also what are "quality of life and convenience items"? So you're telling me I have to pay $40 for the privilege of being inconvenienced by Amazon?

And also like I said, in an MMO, I'm more about the PvE side of things. Dungeons and raids and all that good stuff. From what I can gather, at launch there's only 6 dungeons, there are no raids at level cap, and the dungeons that are there people said are pretty easy. It is primarily a PvP focused game. There's nothing wrong with a PvP focused MMO, it's just not the primary reason I play MMOs. But even then, it almost seems like the earliest adopters get a massive advantage since they'll be able to buy up all the territories, then everyone else will have to fight them for resources. Idk. Maybe that part of the game won't be so bad, hard to say.

Mostly my issue with the game is, I do not trust Amazon.

Oh also, apparently, something about the game doesn't play nice with RTX cards. People have been reporting during the beta that the game is frying EVGA RTX 3090 cards. Amazon says it's not happening, but there's video evidence of it happening to multiple people.

kinda looks like amazon's attempt to throw as much money as they can at something in the hope they can dominate the market

Pretty much yeah. It's a pretty looking game, but just from where I'm standing, that's all about it that really appeals to me, and at the end of the day, that's not important.

Yeah that's just my snark coming out. But reading their statement literally on how they plan to try to nickle and dime me, I just don't know any other way to take that statement.

Yeah I don't know, I've been watching some streams and youtube videos. Combat looks a little stiff. Like I understand the appeal of having to commit to an attack, but it looks worse than that. It's hard to explain. And my understand is to level up, questing it awful and a waste of time. Apparently the fastest way to level is you just go out into the world and gather a bunch of random crap, then you go to a town and go to the quest board and accept and hand in all the quests with all the random crap you collected. Gross. Also I watched a stream of the "hardest" dungeon in the game. And the mechanic for the final boss was at 66% he breaks the right side of the arena, 33% he breaks the left side, 5% he counts down to 0 and if you don't kill him before that then you die. Wow. Really pushing the envelope with that raid mechanic Amazon. :P

Honestly, the game probably does have fun parts about it, and some of these issues will probably be fixed. But just everything I've watched, I 100% do NOT understand all the hype.
