Im not a MJ fan but Im pretty sure hes the best basketball player ever.

Just remembered an argument someone made the other day that one thing thats often overlooked in the goat debate is the number of hall of famers who lost out on championships because of him.

Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Stockton and malone, reggie Miller etc. All never won rings cos they kept getting knocked out by Jordan.

does that pretty much shut the argument down? E.g LeBron hasnt really kept anybody from winning a ring except maybe Demar Derozan

More proof Jordan is the goat. Though Stockton definitely deserved a ring. Man was nigh unstoppable.

Your initial argument is based off of incorrect information though.

How exactly did Jordan prevent Ewing from winning a ring when they made the finals when he was retired?

And if thats the qualifications, Isaiah Thomas and Larry Bird are better than Jordan because he kept losing to them before they got old and hurt. Jordan only won after the Celtics dynasty and Bad Boy Pistons were on their last legs.

As someone who doesn't like basketball, I think the only argument I care about is that Jordan was in Space Jam, which was great, whereas the new Space Jam looks terrible.

Though by "entertainment" logic I might have to give the nod to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar instead because of Airplane and MTV Rock & Jock B-Ball. And for fighting Bruce Lee.

Wait, so when you were a kid, you enjoyed a kids movie that was released during your childhood? But now that you are an adult, you dont think a movie intended for children is as appealing to you?

Space Jam isnt a good movie. Its a kids movie that appeals to your nostalgia. Go ask the parents who brought you what they thought of Space Jam.

However, you are closer than you think with your Kareem argument as he is inarguably the most decorated and accomplished NBA player of all time.

Because Jordan's Bulls knocked Ewings Knicks out of the playoffs 5 times, and only got to the championship when Jordan went off to play baseball(while jordan was on the Bulls)

And when they got to the championship, they still lost. Is Hakeem Olajuwon a Michael Jordan alias? No.

So again, the initial claim is incorrect. The assumption is that if Jordan never played basketball would have meant Ewing would have won a championship. When in fact, winning a championship is very hard and theres no guarantee that Ewing and the knicks would have won.

Moreover, if that is your reasoning, we must remove Stockton and Malone from the list as they lost more times to Clyde Drexler led teams than they did to Jordan led teams.

With so many actual accomplishments to distinguish him as the best competitor the game has ever seen, I dont understand the need to project hypothetical arguments which arent well reasoned.

It's impossible to say which current players destined for the hall won't win a chip. But there are plenty of potential ones: Beal, harden, Westbrook, embiid, Lillard, Carmelo, cp3, Vince Carter, Blake Griffin. I'm sure there are more. Is LeBron the sole reason these guys never won? Not exactly, but he was certainly a factor.
