This is it. This is the fucking card I actually pulled out of a pack and traded away for a Griggle (+ Rush Recklessly). The sets back then also had only two Secret Rares out of like 100+ cards (the other one in this set being Jinzo) and while some sets like LOB had pretty meh Secrets (Tri-Horn & Gaia the Dragon Champion) both of the Secrets in this set were INSANE. The guy I traded it away to was the same guy I beat in the bet duel with Scapegoat and its not like he was even misleading me or anything. He asked me what I wanted for it and I told him. I came up with those answers out of all the cards he could possibly have had. And you could see the look of genuine confusion in his face when I named my terms. I mean what can I say, I thought this card was bad because why would I want to PAY life points and not even be able to play my own Spell cards?

Obviously I got over my aversion to paying LP and in fact this is the first of my PERSONAL TRINITY of LP cost cards that I realized were actually insane and grew to love, although this is the only one out of the three that I dont have my original copy of unfortunately. Lets talk about the artwork though. Just like Solemn Judgment, it features an old man holding his hand out for a negation. But whereas SJs evokes a more Gandalfian You Shall Not Pass feeling, IOs is a Im DONE WITH THIS SHIT Look how hes holding his hand out at an angle for you to kiss the ring you filthy peasant. Its OVER. All SPELLS. NO.

One other thing Ill comment on that affects the ranking of this card (and others) is personal pull history. Considering other factors like competitive viability, artwork, etc. equal, a card that I personally pulled is the one Im going to have more attachment to because it was my card: I didnt trade for it, nobody else owned it first but me. And obviously buying singles is way more practical (and what Ive done for years now) but that feeling of opening a booster pack and pulling something incredible is one of the best feelings about trading cards for me so its left me a bit sad that a vast majority of the time, youll largely get garbage and filler from packs that just make it so impractical to buy them unless youre buying boxes (and even then). So yeah a lot of the later cards are high as they are not only because of their effects, artwork, etc. but largely because in my sentimentality I see them as my cards first and foremost.

Man, that reminds me of how spell cards used to be called magic cards

Kuriboh's great. I really liked the mock duel between Yugi and Mai's voice actors where Kuriboh's Multiply effect was represented by the player grabbing an entire deck of Kuriboh cards and doing the "make it rain" motion to toss them all over the table.

This is it indeed! This is my favorite YGO card ever. I can't remember how I got it back in the day (it wasn't a pull, meaning I must have traded for it). Still, before the era where counter-traps and MST ran rampant, this card locked. shit. down. I normally used it as a free Spell negation and let it die the next turn, but I specifically remember one duel where I let THE EMPEROR (for he is more than a king) troll for like five straight turns as my friend held an ever-growing hand of useless Spell cards. After all, the LP penalty was so miniscule relative to the effect - hell, the Emperor's own animation shows the Emperor scoffing at the LP cost lol.

Once I decided that this was my one and only favorite card forever, I started to ham up its usage to maximum cringe. For a couple duels, when I played it, I'd yell "Order! Order! IMPERIAL ORDER." My buddies hated it so much that I quickly stopped.

Ah... childhood trades lol. Luckily, I was 16-17 when I started, so I at least had a decent idea of card value. I do remember getting a Raigeki from a buddy who wanted my Dark Magician that had different artwork than the standard ol' hat-tipper. For all I know, I could have gotten the worse end of the deal from a dollar value perspective, but it was a freakin RAIGEKI.

I just realized the driver in Shared Ride is half the Delinquent Duo. Probably my favourite artwork in any Yugioh card I've seen (though I don't play so only have seen a fraction of what's out there)

Yeah sangan really gets the brunt of it, sadly. I think he ends up in jail with witch of the black forest (which is funny since iirc both were integral parts for the yata lock) and that's the last we've seen of him, all because he took the wrong bus. I really feel bad for poor sangan.

Well they are unbanned now.. sorta..
No such luck for Graceful Charity yet. But I dont know how they'd get her effect to be manageable again.
The graveyard is the second deck after all.

One of the issues Yu-Gi-Oh has is with no costs to cards any card that gives cost free card advantage or selection almost by definition has to be banned. There would be practically no deck that would ever not play it. Pot of greed has the same issue

There was like a brief time around 2006/7 where konami would just unban cards for seemingly no reason like graceful charity, pre erata dmoc, pre ereta ring, and monster reborn (which has since been "powercrept")

The interesting thing about ring is that Magic cylinder saw actual play during that time

#20: Dark Hole
First TCG release: Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon (2002-03-08)



I love numbered groups. Like the Elite Four, the Three Musketeers, the Gotei 13, the Six Samurai, etc. So when the Power 5 became a thing, I was totally into the concept. I mean, even as a dumbass kid there was no way you couldnt see that these were five of the strongest cards in the game (not to mention, they were mentioned in the instruction manuals that came with the starter decks). Sadly, I never had all five in the same deck at once. Dark Holes the weakest one of the five but it was so ubiquitous even in the playground days (as opposed to Raigeki which only came from a booster pack) that theres strong feelings of nostalgia there. The art is beautiful as well although its unfortunate its only a Super.

#19: Pot of Greed

The one. The only.

This card is actually responsible for getting me back into Yugioh this time around. And it was all the fucking memes I happened to run into which triggered my nostalgia and the rest is history. A couple unfortunate things about this card: First, the original print is only a rare which makes it the only non-foil member of the Power 5 despite being the most broken. And second, the first print also has three unnecessary words which kind of ruins the most straightforward card effect ever when it could undoubtedly be shorter.

Other than that, absolutely iconic (how many times have I used that word by now). One of the only(?) cards that every deck (Im sure someone will come up with one exception) would play if it was legal since theres virtually no downside. And the art is terrific as always. Look at those teeth.

The term "Power 5" is new to me, but I understood what you were talking about. Those were the first "mandatory" Spell cards that every deck needed in order to be competitive. I find Dark Hole to be the most interesting because it's the only one with any downside at all, but even back then, everyone recognized its power and considered it a staple.

Yes, there are Pot of Greed coffee mugs. I've seen regular mugs with Pot of Greed pictures on them, and mugs actually shaped like Pot of Greed. The latter don't come cheap, because they need to be imported from Japan.

Continuing the LIFE POINTS train, I of course thought this was one of the best cards of all time because you get +500 every time you DRAW, something that was GUARANTEED to happen every turn. think about it bro thats like 500000 life points over time its sooo good!!!111 Its a bit of an odd effect for a supposed trap but thats SOLEMN for you.

I have to admit, that's a weird effect for a trap card. It's more deserving of being a spell card.

do you have a clip? i thought it would be super easy to find because of meme status but nothing came up from my initial searches unless it was in that 6 min. compilation i skimmed through and missed

i thought the Rare Hunter played Graceful Charity into Graceful Charity but it was the editing in the compilation that fooled me -_-

They're both pretty much the same. LE has more cards and uses the newer ruleset.

As far as battle animations go, LE changed it so that you only get animations when you summon popular monsters. It's less annoying.
