The customers of the laborers need to be willing to pay more. You wont have enough supply if the price is below what the suppliers are willing to provide their service at.

if your business model relies on paying $2.15 to your employees per hour, literally $2.15, or else you go under, do you even deserve to have a business?

Also I don't see why the Olive Gardens of the world can't be made to pay min wage while the mum & pap shops can pay less (but still not fucking $2.15 lmao)

We don't even have an unemployment rate issue anymore. 5.8% and it's continuing to shrink, especially as more areas have higher vaccination rates and things continue to open up.

They really did just up and find better jobs lol.

Theyll never pay actual wages outside of some extremely gentrified areas that will actually keep on paying the raised prices to dine out. Wait staff is on the workforce fringe and always largely will be. Turnover is high, the work sucks, and its low pay.

The government giving away free money is not "the market".

And yes unemployment is currently down nationally. Many states ended the extra $300. Most states that didn't still have high unemployment rates.

I'm talking about in general where many of these employees are subsidized by food stamps. It's verifiable that both Walmart and McDonald's actually encourages their employees to apply.

You do not get it. There is no market. It was a lie.
People are led to think there is a supply and demand tension that creates the market, but when the market goes the way of the non-rich people they simply rig the thing again and claim there is a labor shortage and ask the government to cut benefits and stuff like that.

I know people keep saying how unemployment is around 6% but that is just people that they can report on. That number has historically always been under reported.

https://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2021/mobile/u-3-was-6-1-percent-u-6-was-10-4-percent-in-april-2021.htm

U3 is total unemployed.

Using U6 is stupid because it counts part time people as unemployed.

The most broadly defined rate, U-6, includes unemployed people, plus people who are "marginally attached' to the labor force, plus people who work part time for economic reasons. The marginally attached are neither working nor looking for work but want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the past 12 months. People who work part time for economic reasons are those that would have preferred full-time employment, but were working part time because their hours had been cut or because they were unable to find a full-time job.

U6 counts people that companies have cut their hours. If you're having staffing issues and you cut people's hours that's on you.

Covid broke the hospitality bubble. People are realising that it's not normal nor sane nor sustainable to pay people less than liveable wages, put them into high-stress environments, deny them basic employee rights and expect them to do 16 hour shifts.

And this is where we realize that the social contract was never a thing.

Things have been carefully designed to funnel people into low pay service, retail and other menial jobs. Everything. Why is health care tied to employers? Why is college a requirement for jobs, yet it's still highly selective and a high capital investment? Why doesn't college prepare you for a job then? Why is the economy always too bad to allow for wage increases or tax breaks or better social safety nets but it is always good enough to afford sending Israel millions or billions of dollars, and giving insane tax breaks to billionaires?

If a person isn't a female with nice assets to show off it does take some work and charm to do it successfully, and by successfully I mean earn those high tips consistently. At least in America.Take tip earning out of the equation then yes I would agree almost anyone can do it.

Part of it is corporate realizing they can save money by forcing a skeleton crew. Part of it is corporate punishing the general public for voting for minimum wage increase. Part of it is the workers refusing to take a job that doesnt cover their expenses (aka corporate refusing to pay the workers). Youre probably never going to see a well staffed restaurant again, now.

Basically, dont eat at restaurants. Its enabling people to abuse workers.
