Only by people who haven't read the books. It's a terrible adaptation, and Cuaron is largely to blame because he didn't care about the series at all-- he wanted to put Lilliputians in for fuck's sake.

Very much agreed. They tended to do that digital color grading shit way too much for the later movies.

While it goes without saying that the first 2 movies are the only good ones, you can tell just how the movies slowly started to deteriorate.

For one thing the later movies become much shorter than the first 2, abandoning any and all details/plot points from the books, be they superfluous or important.

And by the end they just look more and more washed out with that stupid grainy dark filter. Heck by the last 3 movies they outright look indistinguishable from a Twilight movie from how drab and ugly they look.

I remember liking the movie, probably mostly cuz of Lupins actor and Gary Oldman.

What was changed about the story? I read the books, I just dont remember the movie messing with the plot much.

Adaptations aren't all about just taking the book and using it like a screenplay. It's about taking the source material and making a good and entertaining movie about it. And Prisoner of Azkaban succeeds the best in that regard.

It was like they'd made two movies specifically for blind people. Seemed like half the time you needed fucking audio description to work out what was going on.

I remember Azkaban being the most visually interesting, even if they did move some things around. I will admit that the movies after Chamber of Secrets did lack a certain "warmth" though. It may have just been the general color palette, but the first two movies were brighter.

The third movie seems to be a love it or hate it entry.

I thought it was the weakest of the first four movies. I didn't dislike it though. They were all fun - with the possible exception of Deathly Hallows Pt. 1.

If I had to guess, I'd say Deathly Hallows was originally one movie before they realized they were hopelessly over budget and would have to split it into two releases to make their money back.

Am i the only one who thinks the movies were horrible adaptations of the excellent books? They went through so much way too fast and characters like Malfoy took a huge hit because of it.

e: I looked up the differences, they dont seem that consequential tbh lol
For me personally, I just didn't like Gary Oldman as Sirius. Or at least I didn't like the way they designed Sirius. The beard was just way too weird. And how do you get prison tattoos in a place like Azkaban?

And while Alan Rickman was great, he massively fucked up the ages of that generation. Harry's parents were barely in their twenties when they died. This wasn't such a big deal in the first two books, but it became more of an issue when Sirius and Remus showed up.

I didn't want to say it but I also didn't like the gary oldman choice and the general design, that's not how I imagined Sirius in my head. And I say this as someone who loves gary oldman in so many movies.

Even though Alan Rickman was like, 60 when the first movie came out, kid me still would have believed him as late 30s/40s -__- I'm bad with ages.

Wouldn't Harry's parents have been mid-twenties at the earliest? Them being drastically younger is kinda insane, I thought they were already established wizards with a job and such and joined Dumbledore's first phoenix order out of loyalty and to rebel against the dark lord's army.

Nope, they were both 21. I think neither of them actually had jobs, they just joined the Order immediately after school.

Honestly Alan Rickman looked like he stopped aging in his early 40s.

im sure he looked a lot different without the Hollywood makeup, but I honestly had no idea he was so old
