Resident Evil Village > Persona 5 Strikers

Playing R&C: Rift Apart right now but it is clearly below the other two games I played even though it is pretty good.

What a super weak year for gaming so far. Hell, 2016 destroys 2021 and even 2014 is a stronger year. I literally had to look through metacritic to fill in like the last 4 spots.

Also there is not much to look forward to other than SMTV and Tales of Arise for me this year. Quite a sad year for video games. Hope 2022 is a 2017 caliber year.

can't say i ever expected to vote BD2 in a question regarding GotYs but I mean it kinda is for me so far? I think it's the only 2021 game I've 100% completed

apparently it's Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury as the only game that released this year that I've played.

Very interested in It Takes Two though and will likely pick that up at some point in the future

Little Nightmares 2 barely edges out Village for me. Hitman 3 also a close third. I can't wait for the second half of the year though.

Pac-Man 99 for me so far.

I expect Metroid Dread or WarioWare Get It Together to possibly overthrow that.

Yes I feel that if you lock yourself out of indie games as a rule you are going to be absolutely miserable in a year where the development of big games has been severely impacted and the development of indie games has been barely impacted. Not even getting into how the term is almost totally meaningless now anyway.

I can see no reason to exclude Chicory and Loop Hero other than the fact that they are indie games!

First 6 are the likely 6 most popular games released this year. Other 4 are taken from Metacritic with the highest scores and not a remaster/remake or not something that has a 90+ score from like 2 reviews.

I have only played two games that released this year, Genesis Noir and Cyber Shadow. They were both decent but not mindblowing.

I hadn't heard of Chicory either. It is interesting that there's no games with an average OC rating of 90 or higher yet this year.

Will a Ratchet & Clank game do the unthinkable and win GotY on GameFAQs?

Realistically though where would they place in the 2021 GotY GameFaqs poll? I feel like it will be fourth behind RE8, P5Strikers and Monster Hunter but if it is the one time a non Mario platformer makes strides on this website, it could be this one.

Unless Metroid Dread winds up sucking, it'll probably be the favorite here.

I've only played Strikers of these which was great ut I don't think will remain my favorite game this year. I plan on playing Village, Intergrade, and Ratchet & Clank is in the mail. Besides that I know I've played Loop Hero (which I liked but fell off of before completing) and Genesis Noir (pretty good but not great). Blanking on other stuff that came out this year.

But the back half of this year is going to be absolutely stacked. Off the top of my head, Judgement 2, SMTV, Endwalker, and Metroid Dread are probably going to compete for my personal fave.

Current 2021 game ranking:

Ys 9 > Nier Replicant > Omori > Persona 5 Strikers = Overboard! > Bravely Default 2

I liked all of these games! I wouldn't say any of them are top tier, but I'd give Ys IX a 9/10 and BD2 an 8/10. I think it's been a pretty solid year for gaming so far. Endwalker is probably my most hyped game for the second half of the year, but Dread is close.

Has anyone here played Chicory? I'm curious what people think of it.

Yeah, Horizon 1 was pretty popular here, so Horizon 2 stands a good chance of being #1 for the year.

Surprised to see Strikers doing bad. First actually good, honestly great, Persona spinoff, if not great gameplay of Arena aside.

I want GotY to be Arise, and normally it probably would be, but I'm too deep in the hole on XIV so I know it's gonna be Endwalker.

Oh yeah, having only played this one version, I'm not sure if Disco Elysium: Final Cut is a substantial enough of an upgrade over the base game to qualify as a 2021 GotY but it's pretty easily that if so.
