Actually the answer would be Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, first released in the west in December 2020 and then remade -11 years later in February 2009.

If you're saying "the west" then it's actually -12 years as it was December 2008 in Europe.

Has to be Isaac.

It was pretty much a forced remake since flash couldn't support it getting any larger. And then they just ran with it from there.

No more than Golden or P3P. I'd say P3P is the one you could argue is a different game.

I feel like I already gave the correct answer ages ago.

It's just weird to see someone say, "It's clearly [this game] which had a remake released five years later" when that was already beat.

Fire Emblem? The Harvest Moon example I gave earlier (assuming it counts) was already shorter and I'm pretty sure there's stuff even shorter than that.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories had a pretty fast turnaround to Re: Chain of Memories.

November 2004 -> March 2007 in Japan. So just under 2.5 years.

There's also Dragon Quest Monsters 2 (March 2001, GBC) --> Dragon Quest Monsters 1+2 (May 2002, PS1) which is a turn around of a little more than 1 year.

I'm not really familiar with Super Robot Wars 4 since it hasn't been translated yet, but from what I understand it was remade for the Saturn/PSX as Super Robot Wars F/F Final about 2 years after the Super Famicom release (...and one year after 4 was already ported to Saturn/PSX as Super Robot Wars S >_>). Though I couldn't really comment on the content or how much of a remake it was.

Also in the SRW series, you have Original Generation 2 for GBA (2005) as part of Original Generations for the PS2 (2007). There was more of a gap between OG1 and OGs though.

Castlevania --> Castlevania IV

And I'm sure a bunch of arcade games before that

Retelling but I hate calling it a "remake" given how vastly different it is.

What's even funnier is CV1's true remake, Castlevania Chronicles (X68000) came out in 1993. That's still only 7 years after 1986's original release.

masterplum posted...
Thinking some arcade game possibly wins this when it was redone for home audiences. Those arent usually straight ports

Conceptually speaking, they're still ports. They had to rework games for certain hardware.

On that note, Donkey Kong Country (1994) got a demake in 2000 for Game Boy Color.
