the is no evidence-based 'cure', it doesn't exist. the evidence base is actually the opposite ie. offenders offered therapy have higher offending rates. they simply learn to lie more effectively, and manipulate.

There is a cure; think for yourself instead of buying into what other people say. Truth is, everything is logically pointless; there are no absolutes. Life only has meaning because we give it meaning.

Think logically, and you'll find plenty of gray areas, overlaps and anomalies in any code. No one is logically more correct than anyone else. It's all logically arbitrary.

Why do people always assume everyone cares about the difference? You should get the maximum punishment either way, so it doesn't fuckin matter. You shouldn't be free to just go back to society and potentially fuck up another young persons whole life. It's weird you care more about the pedophiles than the victims or potential victims. Are you gonna take personal responsibility and go talk to the families when these pedophiles you kept in society go do it again? Or are you just ok with it because it would have a low chance of it actually personally effecting you if they strike again?

Everyone will quickly acknowledge how much they've growned and learned between 16-20+, but as soon as they want to fuck a teenager, all of a sudden the difference is so small. Fuck outta here. They're all preying on people they know they have an advantage over. Otherwise they'd work on themselves and not need to rely on the other person being more naive and experienced than them.

I would say that GameFAQs doesn't have as much of a problem as they could be, but there's still some sketchy people who are worth keeping an eye on. Like it's not so bad that GameFAQs has a MAP problem, is what I'm saying - it's not such a shitshow that MAPs are using this website as a safe harbour to turn child rape into a sexual identity.

With that being said, we do have users who make shitty age of consent topics from time to time, and one of the biggest shitposters when it comes to topics of age of consent and sexual maturity is a guy who claims to have met his wife on IRC when she was 14 and he was 19. It's enough of an issue that I would recommend users to be vigilant in regards to it.

I would say that we have a culture problem when claims like that aren't cracked down upon to the fullest extent that they can be. But that culture problem extends beyond users claiming to have groomed children in online chatrooms. There's a reason people talk shit about how Star Wars spoilers have historically attracted a much harsher punishment than white nationalist rhetoric, and I think that goes to the top of the food chain - though fwiw, Allen seems to have been more active lately, and we did have a pretty solid user purge within the past week or so.

All we can really do as a community is mark this sort of shit and make it clear that it isn't welcome. The system is flawed, but if more people actively used it, maybe we could make more of a dent in this culture issue. I'm at the point where I'm critical of the moderation system, but the userbase probably needs to mark shit more than they have been to highlight the bullshit they don't want to see in this community.
