Conservatives are raging over a Nickelodeon Youtube video which they branded OFFENSIVE when it aired a music video performed by a DRAG QUEEN in honour of pride month!!

Newsmax Host, Grant Stenchfield, oopsa a poo, i mean Stinchfield claims the network has "gone off the deep end" with its "transgender indoctrination" when the children's network posted it on its official Youtube channel

It features 42 y/o performer and RuPaul's Drag Race Alum Andrew Levitt who also goes by the name Nina West

West explains the colours of the rainbow and urges children to be proud of who they are

Grant, who also hosts the daily show on Newsmax warns his guests about what he's about to show them and that it's a "doozy" claiming "Not that i have anything against gay people, whatever it may be, but hteir transgender indoctrination of kids is just out of left field. Do you understand the amount of questions parents are going to get after that?"

Guest Isabella Riley digged deeper and said the network has SINISTER MOTIVES and said "Like you said, i don't have a problem with gay people. I don't care about transgender people. My problem is that you're shoving it down everyone's throats and i reject any pride month that is just celebrating identity politics.".

She calls it creepy and makes her never want to have kids and said "I don't want to bring them into a world where this is being pushed on them and it's scary, including critical race theory in public schools. I would never subject my kids to these kids of people living with us now"

Jason Campbell, a research for media matters, a progressive watchdog group posted the segment and said "How strange, people who don't have a problem with gay or transgender people, have a problem with gay or transgender people"

The video already has 10,000 dislikes with only 1k likes

Also I thought they didn't like to be called the Q-word. Is this one of those situations where they took it back and changed the meaning so that's it's no longer offensive to say?

Thing is most people in the US (and I'd argue worldwide) are conservative. The US Dem party has tons of social conservatives especially the minority blocs. They don't vote Republican for obvious reasons, it doesn't mean they don't agree with certain stances.

I'm not outraged but wow that is a terribly written/produced song. No flow to it at all. It's not catchy either

The 'not catchy'/'bad song' bit is hilarious. 99% of children's programming music is syrupy simple. I do not find this controversial, it's good that kids can learn about all the different types of people there are.

This video doesn't help to understand it any better. Is each color suppose to correspond with one of the letters? That holds up with the race but the other colors are used to reference some sort of wellness concepts.

"Queer" has been adopted as a sort of general-purpose term for any non-conforming gender identity or sexuality. Basically, anyone that isn't cis/straight is queer, with further subdivisions as needed. It's effectively the "other" part of LGBTQ (which I feel makes it kind of silly to keep adding new letters after that, but that's another discussion).

The standard rainbow is the original Pride flag, generally meant to convey a message of "look at all these colours that are different but they're still happily together," since the underlying goal of Pride is the acceptance of diversity. White, pink, and pale blue are the trans pride flag, which I couldn't tell you the specific origins of, but it's pretty common practice now to incorporate it into the general Pride flag. Black and brown are in there to recognize that Pride has kind of been taken over by white people, which is a problem because A) A disproportionate number of the LGBTQ people that began the fight for gay rights were not white, and B) Because LGBTQ PoC's generally have a much harder time than white ones do, even more so than what you'd get by just adding racial discrimination on top of the anti-LGBTQ stuff.

Assuming you're in Amsterdam (very much an assumption, but it doesn't change these measurements by much), you're looking at about 5500 km to Montreal (I don't actually know if there are any Indigo stores in the Atlantic provinces, or if they're all still Chapters/Coles/whatever other subsidiaries Indigo has that I'm forgetting), and about 9200 km to Victoria. That's a 67% difference, which is actually quite substantial. That gets even bigger if we use St John's instead of Montreal, because then you're comparing 4000 to 9200, or a 130% difference.

Of course, one could still say it's negligible because you're equally unwilling to travel both distances, which would be fair.
