Basically. I took 8 years getting a 3 years bachelor, but I did socially and psychologically develop in that time. I am convinced I would not like who I would be now, without that development.

You're right. It did not affect the fictional TV character.

Oh, community college. Tempers it a little bit.

pionear posted... Do you think he's smarter than you?

No, because he's still just a kid and that was just community college. If he keeps up at that pace, he might be smarter eventually, but not right now.

I graduated 4 years early, but also skipped 2 years before that (as in didn't go to school those years, not skipping grades).

Instead of 12 years of school, I had 6 (and was bored to tears during those). When I skipped 4th grade (just didn't show up all year) they tested me at 12+ in reading comp and mathmatics. I didn't learn a thing after that, but it was a poor area/school, so all they did was move me forward to 5th lol.

I had a full scholarship since I had a 4.0 and tested very high, but I thought school/college was worthless since I was working construction and making $15 an hour (in the late 80's).

As an adult I regretted not going to HS though, since I didn't date in any way till 19 (in fact lost my virginity at 19 with a girl I met at a restaurant and slept with that night. Never got to hold hands, go on dates etc, all the stuff that normally leads up to sex etc).

They really should have colleges for young people who are more advanced and can handle college courses (not just AP courses etc that can count for college credit etc).

There are WAY more kids out there who could probably advance much faster and go straight to college instead of High School, but never get the chance. If you actually created a school for them, you wouldn't have the loss of socialization that usually comes with it, and you would have waaay more kids graduating college at 18 instead of just starting it.

Quality of education and classmates aside -- because YMMV -- community colleges generally aren't 4-year programs. Completing a 2-year program is far less impressive a 4-year program, specifically as it pertains to his age but also in general.

Yeah, a lot of high school relationships don't have that build-up either. It depends on the context. Not to mention you had all of middle school.

So what...in some cases, you can finish a 4-year program in 3-years...plus, many of the courses are nothing but filler/elective courses you can probably learn online nowadays by watching some Tut videos...

Believe me, if you saw some of the 'courses' offered a 4 Year Colleges that count towards a degree, I would thought you were seriously trolling me

I'd argue that he is definitely more intellectually capable than most of us even if he hasn't reached the level of education some of us have. The fact that he can learn at such an accelerated rate probably makes him smarter, at least in that aspect.

Doing a 4-year degree is 3-years is fine, but he did a 2-year program in... well, however long he took. I guess he did it concurrently so there's no way to tell. He might have done that 2-year degree over 4-years, although he still got it done earlier.

It's not really a value argument.

Hence why I said smarter eventually. He doesn't have the attainment yet and, honestly, there will likely be gaps in his knowledge.

Why not?

Overlooking that I'm pretty sure community colleges have gen ed reqs as well, a normal degree is going to have more coursework within your major. Otherwise an associates has *never* carried the same weight as a bachelors (unless the entire major is bullshit) and, again, you're talking about a 4-year degree vs a 2-year degree. That's a much smaller thing.

More importantly, while the gen ed reqs generally aren't pertinent to what you want to do, they technically add a layer of difficulty because you're stuck doing things across a variety of disciplines rather than just focusing on your strength. CS majors may wind up struggling with English classes, English majors may struggle with math, etc. This is especially pertinent with a student in his position who almost certainly has fundamental gaps in his knowledge.
