Watching Giant Bomb do a live look at it right as the embargo lifted and both Jeffs are proclaiming it is hands down the best game in the series and is a showcase for what the PS5's quick load times can really do and is what a lot of reviews are calling the first truly "next gen" game for these consoles.

That said I've never played a single one so I don't know how high that bar is, but maybe I'll play them one day!

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is one of the best games I've played this year. It's fun, it's endearing, and I just want to play it again. The gameplay isn't much different, but it's refined and has aged like a fine wine, with the technical prowess on display we've come to expect from Insomniac Games. If you're looking for a great narrative, the story is arguably the best in the series, with the grandeur of a Marvel movie in tow. One could imply the game isn't long enough, but that's only because they put down the controller, and that's just not what you're going to do if you have a copy of Rift Apart.

Haven't played any of these games since Deadlocked so I tried playing the reboot they gave out for free a couple months back and it felt awful. That did inspire me to acquire the original PS2 trilogy and I've been having a blast with those.

Yeah I was also in the "maybe" territory because Intergrade is also out this week and I get that for free, but several reviewers I respect are just heaping praise on the game. My priority is now to finish the PS2 trilogy and pick this up.

the thing that actually has me interested in R&C is that it's the first game since Astrobot to use the haptics in the Dualsense extremely well

Great so far.

Only issue so far is a bunch of stuff you can jump to off the beaten path that in past games would have led to a secret (a circular platform near the end of the first major area, and some cut off pipes at the beginning of the second major area, for example), but here they seem to be nothing.

Hey so I guess this game has been pretty buggy.

Was doing fine but I just had the game crash and lost, like, an hour?? It just erased tons of auto saves.

Wild. I dunno when I'll be able to bring myself to pick it back up.
