My music tastes haven't changed much since the late 90s into the mid 00s, and I'm okay with that. Deja Entendu is still the perfect album to me and even though I aux more often than not, Leaving through the Window is the CD that has been in my car for many years now. That (pop/)punk sound is just what hits right most of the time.

The one thing that has changed since then is I find myself really enjoying female fronted acts. I can't put my finger on why, they just sound better to me lately.

And so finding this specific cross section and weeding out the bad is a chore, and I figure someone on B8 has done this already. During the pandemic I personally discovered Stand Atlantic and I have basically listened to them for a year now, as an example of something recent I've enjoyed.

But I was watching SNL the other week and I heard Olivia Rodrigo play good 4 u (driver's license was "okay" but good 4 u is a certified bop) and it's everything I've ever wanted in a song for like 20 years which is weird because I'm pretty sure she wasn't even alive for the peak of pop-punk. Now I just want more stuff that has that sound.

So do your thing B8. Feel free to jump a spoke or two from pop-punk for exceptional female fronted acts in general too.

Like, I can't express this enough, I am seriously in love with everything about this song, and it is solely responsible for me wanting to get back into music again. The 00s era music video in 4:3 that is definitely an homage to Jennifer's Body is amazing too

I haven't listened to the entire album yet, but another one I've heard that I vibe with so far is brutal

I do not know where she came from, nor who hurt her, but I'm already a huge fan.

Seconding Hop Along

Picking a song by the title that interested me the most leads to:

Hop Along - Tibetan Pop Stars
https://youtu.be/uTrlRobGHX0

This feels more indie (which is fine and is that one spoke away I mentioned), and I really like her voice and could see myself getting into it more. Is there a particular album that sits above the others here?

She's a bit heavier than pop punk, but Meg Myers nails the vibe you might be looking for.

This song is probably most like the vibe you seem to be digging from good 4 u (which I agree is an amazing song):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqG9hsjLf3M

This is her most popular song I'd say and also a banger:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR5u9jb0PJE

Finally, this is the first song I heard from her that made me want to check her out. Might still be my favorite song by her because it has such a cathartic finish that is probably better live:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xvh_0CuMMtM

The first two are from the same album, though she's released two to this point (though I guess three but the true first one feels a little more EP-ish and I think she advertised Sorry as her first album). Sorry is easily my favorite, but Take Me to the Disco is definitely worth a listen if you are jiving with the first album.

Against the Current - Talk
https://youtu.be/AqQbZcKQCnE

Yeah this is about exactly in my wheelhouse. Nothing better than an upbeat poppy sound with some angry lyrics imo imo

Jetty Bones - Nothing
https://youtu.be/yau5hwnnpEY

There's nothing wrong with her voice, but her overall sound seems like it misses my nostalgia mark by about 20 years. This is more like a song that would have came out in my birth year.

MisterWives - rock bottom
https://youtu.be/Msfc7VoIJPg

Those horns, man. This is more... funk? And definitely more pop. I don't dislike it, but I'd probably have to hear a couple more before deciding to add them to THE LIST. Feel free to point me in the right direction.

Oh yeah, I saw that SNL performance and thought it was pretty good.

It strongly reminded me of one of my fav artists, Alanis Morissette, who you probably already have heard to some degree. She's in a similar territory of being very famous when she was very young. I don't think she's generally considered "pop punk", probably because her most famous album Jagged Little Pill, is more on the side of 90s alt rock.

But this is one of my favorite of her songs, which came way later in her career, and I'd say it's pop punk:

None of these really fit perfectly in the "pop-punk" category, but the best examples of those have already been listed, like Lemuria and Tsunami Bomb. I'd throw the Distillers in here, but I'd wager you wouldn't like the vocals based on your comment about Dreamhouse earlier. I'd say Paramore/Dreamhouse are more mall emo than pop-punk, (and Paramore is just "pop" in the later records) but that's splitting hairs. Anyway I'll offer:

This topic is highly relevant to my interests - female led vocals are absolutely my favourite. I have many things to write down in this topic as I've heard of almost none of them..... I do like The Veronicas.

I don't really understand music genres that well so I'm just going to list my favs. If they aren't pop punk I would think they are adjacent?

My absolute FAVOURITE is lights. I love her and everything about her and i listen to her every day. every song is a masterpiece

Here's a song from earlier in her career, the middle, and recent

Drive My Soul - from The Listening(watch the cheesy music video at your own risk)

Muscle Memory - from Little Machines (acoustic version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAWxeGoXEK8

Magnetic Field - from Skin & Earth

I think this might be my favourite song overall:

Cactus in the Valley - from Siberia (acoustic version with Owl City)

i love lights

Five Knives -

Marina -

This one is definitely off genre - but I am loving K/DA a lot. It's a made up KPOP girl group with League of Legends of characters, made with some KPOP and english artists. This is the first song they released a couple years ago, and they released an album with 5 more that I like even more last year. I don't even like league, dota for life, and I don't listen to KPOP, but somehow this just works for me.

To add to the repository then, I'll throw in some from group that carried me through the pandemic and really reinvigorated my love for the genre. I don't think they have a bad song.

Stand Atlantic - Lavender Bones

Stand Atlantic - Blurry

Stand Atlantic - Hate Me (Sometimes)

Then as I was getting into them I found out the lead singer was dating the lead singer of another pop-punk band which I don't think is as good, but still has some gems.

Hot Milk - Candy Coated Lie$

I don't know if this was supposed to be a joke nom, but that is unironically a banger and I will stand by that.
Absolutely not a joke, but they did get popular due to memes back in the day

As a Swiftie I would be remiss if I didnt recommend Better Than Revenge

She didnt exactly make a career out of this sound but she did it once, and its extremely petty <_<

The Story of Us too, my favorite T-Swift song personally. She also has Paper Rings on Lover which was pop punk-esque.
