helping dad with his homework, this time he's stressed out over a question using excel graphing and he doesn't understand what it's asking

while i'm doing it he asks me how the other students will be able to do this question because he thinks i only know because i'm in computer science

... he really doesn't get that kids have been growing up with computer use in school (and daily life) for decades... which is odd since he was still teaching only a few years ago

The thing with my dad is he grew up in an environment that clearly pressured him the importance of being smarter than everyone, and as a result he's ended up with an incredible intellectual insecurity with which he constantly needs prove how smart he is, that he knows better than anyone, and that everyone else is a moron.

Knowing my aunt I totally get why, every conversation I have with her is like a job interview, and then on casual dining events she's known to bring up debate topics as table talk, going around the table for everyone to back up their views with proper arguments and repeat answers aren't good enough.

My dad doesn't really take courses to learn, but to show off how much he knows and then he gets caught off-guard by how much he doesn't - and it absolutely paralyzes him. In his indigenous studies course oh lord me and gsis kept having to talk him down from arguing over his professor, an indigenous woman, that he believed he knew more about indigenous issues than because he worked a government job in Labrador a long time ago. Also oh my god in his papers me and gsis had to stop him from going on wild tangents about the struggles he went through in life because he also gets competitive about having a hard life.

fun fact he also likes looking up random facts to quiz his doctor on when he goes for an appointment, no joke to show off how smart he is

It's also really hard to watch TV with him because he always has to call people on the TV morons or idiots or something, whether it's expert opinions on the news, or fictional show character walking into a dangerous situation, or a quiz show contestant not knowing something or getting it wrong (whether my dad actually knows himself or not). I can't staaaand the endless barrage of negativity.

quiz shows in particular omg, so often a contestant gives an answer, he calls them a idiot, but the contestant ends up being right and my dad goes "oh"

Like mannn I say a lot about my dad here because I live with him and of course there'll be issues or things just baffle me about him throughout the days, but we manage and we're both here and can always depend on each other nonetheless because we're family.

My mom... has really lost it and it doesn't feel like this can be repaired. She's very much like my brother and always has to be the victim, although she goes off in some bizarre gaslighting direction with it where she completely makes up ludicrous offenses and demands apologies for them all the while never acknowledging her own actions. I can't at all trust her and it honestly horrifies me to have any part of my life depend on her because how petty and vindictive she can get if anything goes wrong, nothing is off-limits to extort with.

Unfortunately her dirtbag boyfriend is no-doubt egging her on against us, basically confirmed it himself talking about changing her will over to him. Fucking lmao go ahead, we're not gonna be slaves to your abuse for that.

I can't for the life of me understand what kind of monster could flip at a switch and boot their child out in 1 hour's notice under threat of calling police (pushed back to "by 8pm" after it becoming patently obvious how unmanagable 1 hour is with a newborn baby to deal with along with all their new baby supplies and furniture. Jesus Christ.

She won't even talk to gsis directly anymore, she's been texting through our aunt to check-in and shit, all the while telling gsis not to say anything mean about her on Facebook where all the relatives would see.

Not to talk myself up but honestly I've always found most of my growth came from my role in the family as an observer. Attention's never been on me, it's a really full-of-yourself statement to make but factual that I've been the favourite of everyone in the family - my brother's gaming buddy, my sister's play doll (and the only one to always back her up), and the child of the family that's always kept quiet and never caused any issues.

Well, gsis and gdad actually have a good relationship too... keeping in mind gdad's built-in trollish personality that can go too far at times (... he will never learn accept the harm of endlessly "teasing" people). But yeah she's always been concerned for him and I find she is the easiest person for him to talk and go out for a walk with which he really needs.

I can say though me and my sister have the absolute best relationship a family can have, as we've always had each other's backs (although it's more often hers in the fire)

As for today I got to babysit gniece while gsis and co were taking care of some things like getting a storage unit. Also found that gmom dropped her keys in gsis's car again lmao, so gsis wanted to try and go get some more of her stuff as we obviously couldn't take everything in that ludicrous and sudden timeframe. Only to find out... mom had already called the building's security to say she STOLE her keys and to have her banned from the building. Fucking 8 hours notice (again to remind you, bumped up from one hour) and blocked off from accessing your own property.

Sadly we saw it coming so we did at least focus on stuff we'd be concerned with gmom fucking with (because yeah she's that kind of person), but it's all just so insane.

Anyhow so aside form watching gniece I've been updating some account information stuffs that's long overdue, still gotta stop using mom's as my permanent address for like bank and pharmacy deliveries... especially the latter as I have some refills coming soon and it wouldn't be a first for gmom to use my meds as a bargaining chip. Deleted our profiles from the family netflix account (was originally mine, but gmom ages ago changed my details to hers), made a new one with gsis/gdad, and changed my passwords for Disney+ and Prime. Prime was fun to change and sign out of all devices because my account is what she uses for her Firestick, and her asshole boyfriend made his own profile I very much enjoyed deleting.

god gbro's always been toxic as *fuck* to gsis, and gmom would often be on his side until I'd eventually erupt in fury on occasions when my sister's brought to tears.

I remember vividly one time years back, me screaming at my mom and her boyfriend who were arguing at my sister (just something really stupid and meaningless), then yelling at them to look at gsis's face full of tears, asking them what the hell they think they're doing

my sister's just always had it really rough and I've *never* fucking understood it, I've always felt really bad for her which has developed into a protectiveness - she doesn't deserve the shit she so often goes through. If anything she's the only one who's truly had a head on her shoulders living independently for years, rarely out of a job except for now during a pandemic and raising her first child - and she's been utterly let down by a family that should be happy to help support her in such a time of need

It's sad knowing her independence in life was spurred by her need to get away. I wasn't happy to have her living so far away but I very much understood why. With all the initial excitement for her return last fall I was really hoping that could turn around and she could start her family with us.

this venting hurts I have to stop now T_T

Shared a few things that I posted in here, really wanted to acknowledge to her how much of her life she should absolutely be proud of since that really isn't recognized enough. at our work's old location, there's a shortcut path to get there that, from the bus stop, goes through a plaza, then behind the plaza, go through a hole in a fence, then down an alleyway.
