I hope we somehow win the senate in 2022, and then tell Joe Manchin and Sinema to go fuck themselves. Let West Virginia just burn to the ground. We really should make him pay for playing it like this. Collins is a super fake "moderate" too btw

The way congressional/national politics function there basically isn't a single moderate Republican because they're all votes for McConnell who will then kill everything but they could use that as a shield to say "oh but if it came up for a vote i would surely support it!" when they're the ones who put the guy who is keeping it from getting that vote in charge.

Now that they no longer have that shield they have no choice but to take the mask off by showing that nope they all oppose anything that hits the floor.

I feel like people in this topic keep forgetting that Manchin/Sinema are just fall guys and even if the dems had a huge majority they would still keep finding fall guys and it is just political theater.

So I would agree with this but the whole thing about voting rights is that it's something that should be of interest to even the most corrupt of Democratic politicians. The whole deal here is that Republicans are pulling out all the stops to rig elections in their favor. That means that Democrat establishment politicians will lose their jobs.

Manchin doesn't care because he knows (or thinks) HIS job is safe. But what's the motivation for the Democratic party as a whole to go along with it? It's a losing scenario for them. They'd all have to all be as self-interested as Manchin, be so oblivious they think it'll happen to someone else, or have zero lust for power. There is also literally a fascist movement that would like to see them all dead, so if they think that being the ineffective opposition party is somehow a benefit then they're completely braindead.

Go ahead and doompill me on this. What's the most cynical reason the party as a whole would oppose democracy? Are they really just that stupid, or do they not think they can win?

So "optimistic" me thinks we could bully Coons/Carper into doing something. Like the other ones won't even come out publically and are just hiding behind Manchin, but we know from the article Tony posted a while back that there are only 40 democratic votes for ending the filibuster. You can sort of figure out who these dems are based on past votes and it has to be people like Coons/Carper/Feinstein/etc.

In the current set up, nothing will happen Manchin is impervious to bullying, and Sinema seems to not care either. I feel like at least Coons/Carper would respond to hatred.

I mean 52 seats would force other holdouts to come out from hiding, and even 53-54 would be diecy. I think though at 55+ seats it would be pretty untenable for holdouts.

Like there are definitely Senators glad that Manchin and Sinema are taking the heat for all this and hiding behind them, but I don't think it's that many and the pressure would mount a lot on Senators who haven't had to weather it thanks to the razor thin margin we currently have.

Yep. I think Manchin is taking fire for other senators in swing states. My guess is if Manchin changes his tune its because all 49 other senators are also on board. Its possible there are 47-48 that are on board and it is strategically correct for Manchin to continue to bemoan regardless if he still thinks that way

I mean this bill isn't political theater. It's political survival. Republicans will continue to be the fascists they are, and suppress the vote. Because they know their ideas are unpopular. They don't care. They'll do whatever they can to hold on to power. It's why you can't get ONE Republican, even fake moderates like *cough Susan Collins cough* Oh excuse me, had something in my throat. Like SUSAN COLLINS, who is the biggest fraud in the world. The only reasons anyone could have for opposing this bill is: 1. They approve of Republican Fascism or 2. They're racist. Some people, of course, fit into both. I'm sure there's Democrats in the party who are racist enough to oppose this bill, but politically it's the stupidest possible move to oppose it.
