so where do the celtics go from here? It's obvious Kemba is not goin to be what he was in CHarlotte, which kinda screws them over hard. Do they part with picks to offload him for someone else? Is Stevens a problem? Do they just stay the course now that brown and tatum have fully come into their own?

Have to try surround Tatum and Brown with better fitting pieces combined whilst hoping some younger players take the next step. So many rookie contract guys right now who aren't amounting to even rotational players. Langford and Nesmith may take a step though.

I think if they can offload Kemba for a better fitting piece they should but may be hard to find that piece.

They probably should have tried getting Vucevic but Ainge was never going to top the Bulls offer. Ainge seems to have fallen into the trap of what most fans do in overvaluing the assets they have. They must have had countless opportunities to convert those picks / players into something that would help win more now but always stuck with what they had and ended up with a lot of questionable backend roster pieces.

I think the craziest part of this is that from what I've read, this was planned for a while rather than a reactionary thing. So even when Ainge knew he was on the way out, he was still unwilling to make trades.

Brown and Tatum are still pretty young. Just have to hope Im a few years that they can recruit a big free agent.

the sentiment up here is that Ainge wont trade unless he totally takes the pants off the other team

danny didn't really fuck up by making or not making trades - he and brad together fucked up by letting all of their free agents walk

kyrie leaving was bad. we got kemba back who's a lot worse, but whatever. al horford left. we let theis fill the gap and brown/hayward/tatum got bigger roles, whatever. terry rozier and marcus morris left. good, we needed the shots to go around to the jays anyway. but hayward leaving and the theis trade kind of drove a nail into our coffin.

I thought kyrie chose to leave, not necessarily the celtics let him walk? He seemed pretty done with the place for...whatever reason.

Right. They also apparently could have had Myles Turner for Hayward at one point but instead he ended up leaving for nothing (except a giant TPE).

I will say I personally don't blame celtics for how they handled hayward. His tenure there was a gigantic failure marred by injury (not that it was his fault, it's just the way it is.) Just as he started to ramp up from that gruesome injury, he got hurt again. Boston FO and fans both were probably just ready to wash their hands of him, and it was a reasonable doubt that he'd be able to perform again like they thought he would when they brought him there.

kyrie, horford, and hayward all left in free agency, yes - the players chose to do that

failing to keep them or get anything meaningful back for them is a failure of the organization though, doesn't matter who you want to blame.

I guess I just can't equate the two then. To me, either it's the player's fault and out of the organization's control or it's the org's fault for not retaining someone they could have; I can't really reconcile the idea that it's both a player's fault and an orgs fault at the same time like it's reading you're saying. Kyrie falls in the former to me, because I don't think anything boston could've done was going to convince him to stay. No idea on horford. Hayward goes in the latter because he ended up being really important to them and the org misjudged that.

The Suns swept both the Jazz and Mavericks this season! Deandre Ayton is 8-1 against Luka never forget the amazing pun

The Clippers are the team the Suns really struggle with so if they can figure it out they scare me the most. I would take the Suns with confidence over the other three teams though

Then again, CP3's health is a concern

Eh season series are different than a playoff matchup of multiple games, Knicks swept the Hawks in the regular season and we all know how that ended up

That said Suns are intriguing if healthy and their inexperienced roster is focused, which they were against the Lakers and could have some relevance later on

You've got a bunch of teams left with little or no playoff experience. The Nets might be the most experienced team left!

And I'm okay with it. This might mark the transition to the post-Lebron era, even if he sticks around for a few more years.

I didn't say none of them have playoff experience! And a lot of the ones that have been in playoffs several times have a bunch of first and second round exits on the resume! Also, Playoff P's nickname should only ever be used in jest.

I think only the Bucks and Nuggets have even been to a conference finals in recent memory, so that's why I said it feels like a transition. Really, only a Nets win won't totally feel like the dawn of a new era, and even then, that's an interesting outcome in other ways.
