This sucks. The only reason I took this job was because I knew the old management team was gone. The new management has been fantastic, and made this the best job I've ever had.

Came into work today to the news that the GM had been fired this morning. I was shocked, as was everyone else. There was no apparent reason for this. She was great. Our other manager is taking it poorly. Not sure what she'll do.

So... Yeah, now the old GM is back. He got fired 2 years ago for mismanaging the funds. Him and his entire team got fired and replaced with the good ones. The owners are out there now talking with him.

This is making me sick. I don't know what to think. We're already short staffed and working mandatory overtime, and we're not even opening the second hotel 24/7. He's promised to have both operating at full capacity by the end of the week. Which, unless he can simply pull more workers out the air, means probably no more days off and double shifts for everyone. Even worse if anyone else decides to leave over this(I may just end up going that route myself).

Get everyone together and threaten to all leave unless you only have to work a set number of hours (40 or less) and they hire more people.

They've been trying to hire more. No one wants the job. Already 2 coworkers are considering leaving... Honestly, I am too. Guess I'll ride it out for the rest of the week and see how it goes.

We're in a period of time now where jobs are struggling to find enough workers due to the over-generous unemployment payments and zero oversight/enforcement of making sure people on unemployment are actually trying to get jobs.
If ever there was a time to job hop, this is it.
Don't quit before you have something else for sure, but definitely spend some time looking.
You seemed to have a lot of legitimate gripes w/ this job even with the awesome boss who's now gone, and it sounds like things are about to get much worse. Probably a good time to bail.

I'd say start looking for other work now. Don't necessarily quit until you have something else lined up, but with a reference from the good boss, you should be able to find something readily enough.

No, the payments are if anything an eye opener that wages are far too low. Do not blame Unemployment, a system meant to aid people, for wages that are far below poverty levels.

There are a lot of jobs, but not a lot of decent employers. Again, see the issue with poverty wages, but also see other issues such as mandatory overtime (often imposed last minute), half-assed benefits that largely come out of your paycheck (lol are they really benefits then?), and how people can just be let go with little or no warning or reason. So yeah, there are a lot of positions to fill, the vast majority of them being just like this, so moving from one problem to another solves nothing.

I was going to say rally everyone together who still works at this place, contact corporate level demanding they: explain their decision to remove a good GM with a problematic one, undo this bad decision, face a mass walk-out should this issue not be rectified, and said issue will be made public knowledge. Said company will probably not wish to have to polish their shit for the public eye, nor have to try to replace everyone, so the following action will be on them. Also, yes, make sure such correspondence is recorded properly for legal posterity.

Two of my coworkers are very close to quitting. I feel like my remaining manager isn't going to stay(gm was her best friend and they were hired as a pair). I'm on the verge of leaving too. This guy is the reason I quit the last time I worked here.

I'm just afraid I won't find anything else that fits as nicely as this job did. If my manager does decide to stay, and she can separate me from this guy as much as possible, I think I'd be ok staying for now. Still, thinking about this physically makes me feel ill. I hate it.

Find a new job. Now is a great time for people working low-end jobs to change companies.

Otherwise you can talk your coworkers into staging a walkout and see how long the owners keep the guy if he's the only one working there.

I'm not blaming the institution of unemployment.
I'm blaming the bloated addition that Congress applied to it.
Let's say someone made $15/hr (the Democrat rallying cry for min. wage), worked a 40 hour per week schedule, and the state pays 50% the normal wage in unemployment insurance (UI), which seems to be the typical range of percentage.

$15/hr * 40 hr = $600
$600 / 2 = $300 per week in UI normally

But wait... the feds are kicking in another $300, so now you're dead even!
Except...you can make this $600 per week doing nothing. You don't have to incur the costs of working (transit, more expensive meals on the go, maintaining a wardrobe of work uniforms, etc...). And the UI money can have all the taxes deferred until tax day the following year (and some states are making the UI boost tax exempt).

There is no "competing" with that. This is an unnatural temporary situation created by Congress. It's not enough for the wage to even equal UI. It has to be significantly higher than UI to be worth actually going to work, because (shocker) work fucking sucks and most people only do it b/c they need the money.

I would say that either the first time they do something to fuck you over, leave. Or if you are literally working too many doubles with no time off, leave... But that's just me...

You could also start looking for different jobs in your free time, so you aren't just leaving with no options. And if you can get a better one, then you can put in your two week notice.

The only way I'd stay is if the old management got any better since the last time they were there, but that probably hasn't happened...

They probably literally can't do that if they don't have enough people. To only work 40 hours, you would need to have enough people for every position for every shift...

I'm so tired. The new girl skipped out apparently, so there's 1 down. She was supposed to be training with me again. She's a former employee who started back last week because of the better management. She was very unhappy about this too, but told me she'd be in today. My other coworker called out due to a family emergency, so once again I'm stuck running both hotels on my own. lol

Also, the "new" gm didn't even remember me. Or at least he acted like he didn't, introducing himself like we hadn't met. Dunno why that even bothered me. Man, I haven't felt this down a long time.

They put it back up with no changes. So I'm not coming in tomorrow, but it looks like they might not have anyone to work. They had the new girl to run one, and the lady who called out at the other. If she decides to take another day, there won't be anyone.

Edit: Also just had to call the cops and kick a guest out. That sucked. They were so loud that people at other neighboring hotels were complaining about it. So... They had to go. Jeez, this week sucks. lol

No, things have been operating normally. I think he realized that there's more to the issue than he originally thought, as we're still closing the one hotel each night.

Aside from a couple of employees going out if their way to impress him, looks like things are the same as they were before. Which is good for me, potentially bad for him since he made promises that he's already not living up to. Bad for the housekeepers because he's being extra harsh on them for really no reason.
