In many parts of Canada, we are still weeks away from being able to get a shot. Thanks to the complete fumbling of getting supplies by our Prime Minister, and the nonsensical prioritization of distribution, the region I live in just TODAY opened up bookings for 50+, and those bookings are for clinics in the first week of June.

Trump is an idiot, but you do have to give him credit for securing the supply of vaccines that Biden was able to administer. It's like the Trump administration understood the importance of getting vaccines out to end the restrictions, but didn't understand that the restrictions themselves could be implemented in a way to prevent spread while still keeping the economy somewhat open.

Canada's handling of COVID-19 is a national embarrassment at every level of government.

Nah.

The man downplayed the pandemic for months, and is the very reason the US did so poorly handling it in the first place. The only reasons Trump cared about vaccines at all is because it was profitable, and he thought he could leverage them to win reelection.

He even wanted them delayed just so he could put his name on all of them.

Biden is the reason people are getting their vaccines. Trump and his administration get no credit.

What region are you in? Here they just opened it up to 18+.

For a country with no vaccine producing capabilities Canada did quite well. It's unfair to compare us to the richest nation in the world

I'm in Manitoba, I got my first shot a couple days ago. Open to anyone 13 or up here now IIRC. Given the way supply chains work I think Canada is doing pretty well. We need to build up some vaccine producing capability though, and IIRC steps are being taken in that direction. Not that I'm in love with Trudeau but I'll take him over the dumpling golem the PCs have ladelled out of their soupbowl

Yeah, we went with a single vaccination for everyone first strategy. A few countries have, including the UK. Feels like it's the most effective way to reduce cases with limited quantity

My understanding is that a 2 week wait is shorter than the recommended wait time for getting the second shot. At least in the common case. I'm not sure if there are edge cases where a 2 week wait is better.

mom's a hospital worker that's been fully vaccinated since March, rest of the family's had their first shot except for my anti-vax brother who won't even take the vaccine for a full month's rent in his downtown Toronto apartment as my mom offered

but yeah dad got his early April, my sister and her American fiance who just moved here late April got theirs last week.

came here to post this. no reason to believe the US has significantly done better than Canada, although partially the lack of interest of the remaining unvaccinated in the US is partially why Canada has wider access (because Americans are more often no longer opting to get the vaccine, they got more to Canada)

Well, we have proof of vaccines literally sitting in warehouses because the Trump admin didn't actually give instructions on where to send them to, so Pfizer and co. were just like "Uh, we have 'em but..."

And then we have proof that the "federal supply" that was supposedly being saved for second doses/etc. was a lie and literally didn't exist.

It was a mess.

I'm not saying this to praise Biden, specifically. Literally anybody could have gone in there and come up with literally any rollout plan whatsoever and it would've been an improvement because they didn't have one whatsoever before that.

This is hearsay but what I've heard is that if you've had some prior exposure to the virus, the first one is the one that kicks your butt, and if not, it's the second one. But now I've seen a few people who haven't had significant problems with either! Second shot knocked me for a loop for about 24 hours but I was fine afterwards, and that seems to be the case with most of my friends.
