Hamas recruits and trains tens of thousands of soldiers, has thousands of rockets at any given time ready to launch at Israel, conducts intelligence gathering and stockpiles weapons and ammunition. If you had even the smallest bit of honesty or self-awareness you would ask yourself how they are able to do all of this on a small strip of land with no apparent military facilities.

The reality is Israel has to choose between letting Hamas operate freely or confronting them when they know Hamas trains and recruits in schools, stores weapons in hospitals and launches missiles from residential areas.

But you'd rather not think about that. It's too hard. Everything must be dumbed down to a Disney story of good vs evil because it's easier for you to digest. Easier to group up with a like-minded online hivemind and attack anyone who hurts your ego by knowing more about it.

I realize this is like trying to convince Trump supporters that the election wasn't actually rigged, but maybe the coverage you read about this conflict is intentionally reductive.

The approach Israel has taken towards Hamas, between open hostilities, has been to economically immiserate the people of Gaza in the hopes of spurring some resistance. This approach is not too dissimilar to the sanctions and blockades implemented by the US against regimes in Iran, Cuba, and Venezuela. It hasn't worked in any of those cases, nor did it in pre-war Iraq, but it sure has ruined a bunch of civilians' lives.

That article doesn't say Biden received intelligence that proved Hamas was in the building at the time - it actually makes clear that the US government *doesn't* want to say what the intelligence said.
