If S3 was the equivalent of roughly the end of Harry Potter Book 4 all the way through the beginning of Book 7 in hyper-concentrated form in terms of ~~plot advancement, character deaths, and things turning dark on a dime and shit just generally hitting the fan,~~ then S4 was the equivalent of Harry and Hermione lost in the woods for an entire season. S4 wasn't bad by a more objective standard, and certainly didn't do anything unforgivable; it just slammed on the brakes so damn hard after the hurricane that was S3 that it kinda killed my motivation to continue. So I might pick it up again someday (not like it's hard to find or a significant time investment).
