So you are against science? Research has shown fully vaccinated people are not vectors of the disease. Are you saying that science is wrong and we should live in a world ruled by your fear and emotions? Do you not trust that the vaccine is working and making people immune to the coronavirus?

Youve been corrected before that the vaccine does not make you immune, and there are still a LOT of people who havent gotten their vaccine yet.

I'll continue to wear a mask wherever and whenever I have to. I'm not gonna be a jerk and disobey the rules of whatever place I happen to be at. Regardless, I really want to ditch the mask completely and just wish everyone would get vaccinated so we can go back to being uncomfortably close to each other.

It's weird to me that there are people who are afraid or suspicious of the vaccine. Like, we've had a bunch of vaccines as children, what's a couple more? Especially if you don't like the COVID rules, you'd think this would be something even Trumpers would like.

I understand that, based on the simple facts of disease transmission and whatnot, this is an accurate statement,

I'm not sure why you chose to only read the final quarter of my post, but I think you'll find the rest of it answers pretty much every question you asked there.

To explain: If the CDC is announcing this, it's because they've determined that fully vaccinated people do not present a significant enough risk of being infected or transmitting the disease to warrant wearing a mask. I don't doubt that, especially as vaccination rates climb. That's not the problem.

The problem is that countless idiots are going to use this to justify eliminating mask mandates and/or lie about their vaccination status so they don't have to wear a mask. Unless mask mandates are kept in place, that's going to result in rising case numbers among that population, diminishing the effectiveness of existing vaccines and creating a breeding ground for variants that may get through the existing vaccines. This is also going to mean that, if a variant emerges that isn't prevented by the vaccines, the vaccinated population is going to be particularly vulnerable to that because they aren't masked, and especially so because getting them to wear masks again after telling them they don't have to is going to be hard.

Don't get me wrong, it's good that the science is supporting this, because that's a major milestone in the fight against covid. I also don't doubt that the CDC has analyzed the data properly. I just don't trust the general public to not screw this up.

I mean if the government really wanted to ensure only those fully vaccinated people get this they could create an ID or something that shows that they have been fully vaccinated. It would be quite an expense creating a special ID just for that though, so I doubt it happens.

Pretty much. Counterfeit ID's would also be inevitable, plus it's considerably more work for businesses to enforce an ID requirement than to just call out people that aren't wearing masks. The logistics of it are just too complicated to justify doing it, particularly where the alternative is just continuing to require masks until case numbers get low enough (which, despite some people's insistence, really isn't a big deal).

I mean even with a no mask needed ordinance across the country businesses could still require one if they deem it so. The same way a business can refuse to serve someone that refuses to wear a shirt or put on shoes.

Now that business might find some very irate customers with that assuming other businesses nearby drop the requirement but just saying.

Businesses can, but if the past year has taught us anything, it's that relying on businesses to make potentially self-sacrificing decisions for the sake of public health isn't the most effective way to improve public health. Especially not when those decisions are unpopular enough to cost them business. Even those that might be inclined to will probably end up not doing so because of the potential for people going elsewhere in response, particularly where most small businesses are kind of desperate for revenue after a year of this.

I'm not surprised. People are tired enough of all this that they'll latch on to anything that sounds like it means they don't have to do it anymore. To that end, I think publishing this was pretty irresponsible on the CDC's part.

There are still other reasons to wear a mask personally. Other diseases besides COVID (this pandemic year was the first year for me since I can remember where I haven't gotten ill with a cough that lasts a couple months). Privacy. They look cool, I have multiple styles that are cute. They keep my face warm when it's cold out.

Also variant breakthrough, immunocompromised, J&J and AZ not super duper effective, etc.

I won't judge vaccinated people not wearing a mask now. But people can still wear one to be extra cautious if they want or for other benefits.

Anti mask being a problem before was a public health risk. Still wearing a mask isn't a public health risk. So comparing those is a false equivalence.

But I'll still wear one for awhile, and maybe during flu season regularly in the future.

Presumably, if the CDC is publicly announcing this, it's because they've determined that that isn't a significant risk. Prior to this announcement, my inclination was to err on the side of caution in case vaccinated people could still transmit it, since the jury was still out on that, but the CDC is the jury. If they're saying it's okay, then it's probably okay.

Now, whether or not it's sensible to make this announcement when the public is guaranteed to respond inappropriately to it? That's another question, and I'm pretty sure the answer is no.

It wouldn't surprise me if it is, in many jurisdictions, but if that's the route that the government chooses to take to manage the pandemic, I would expect an exception to be passed to allow it.
