I don't think I've picked up a new television show in years. Do new television shows even air anymore?

One of the sites I have had bookmarked for the longest is https://www.pogdesign.co.uk/cat/, they post the new and returning TV shows every month, and I don't understand who these are marketed towards. Definitely not me (although the new Law and Order series is ok).

Yeah, once streaming services figured out they can make their own content to make it exclusive, it was the final death toll.

Now we have 30 different streaming services.

The problem is the streaming services don't have anything either.
The "top" TV shows are all shows like 6-8 seasons deep.
not to mention that The Simpson's is still managing to top charts 32 seasons deep.

The last show I watched was the one with Matt LeBlanc that got cancelled, while the network kept worse shows on the air. So yeah, to me, TV has died. Ive never even paid for a subscription. I just pay for the internet (where I get whatever I want to watch) and watched TV when I visit other peoples houses.

Actually there are new shows on the prime tv channels, especially since most of them market their own exclusives and paid TV networks etc. In addition there are TONS more shows released each year if you include netflix/disney/hulu/amazon etc.

In fact when you add in Anime on crunchyroll, and other streaming services like Stars/HBO Max etc, there is about enough new content to subscribe to something every month and just catch up on all the new crap they released in the last year.

Almost never ending content even if your watching 40 hours of shows a week at this point...and that is NEW content, not factoring in old stuff you may not have seen etc.

I'm actually pretty far behind on my hulu/amazon/stars etc content because I have Netflix all the time from my uncle (and I can't keep up with the new content on there alone), and my roomates have HBO max so I have been watching a bunch of stuff on there as well.

Just those two alone, along with young sheldon which I still watch (for free on their website), is all I can handle, and I'm not even working and am at home all the time still (sigh...looking for a job...growl).

Seriously, if you could handle it, and you had all the streaming services, I think you might be able to watch 18 hours a day of new content non-stop at this point. There have never been so many shows released in history.

jfc, Judg, how many times are you going to make this same topic? >_> Then you prop up streamers who get what, maybe tens of thousands of simultaneous viewers? Meanwhile shows that don't pull in several million viewers consistently get canceled.

wtf? More seasons is a plus, not a minus. The worst part of picking up any new show is that it might not go the distance after you've become emotionally invested.

Depends on the show. There are certainly plenty of things I'd love to see go forever. Other things don't really make sense to eternally prolong. For example, GoT needed to end eventually. Sometimes like Smallville or Supernatural did not. Same for sitcoms, where most could run forever just like how soap operas can run forever.

I start new sitcoms on network TV fairly regularly. Most of them aren't that great, but I'm hoping one of them will be the next Seinfeld and I'll be able to say I was with it from the beginning.

To list the series i''m currently in the middle of would take way to freaking long, and I have a backlog of series I wanna watch.

I've barely started Ozark and I've heard great things about it. I'm about to watch Wandavision (possibly start tonight), but I have the falcon and the winter soldier one to watch as well, and one other on Disney (forget it's name). I wanna watch the super hero invicibles or whatever show everyone is talking about on Amazon (But it's the only thing I wanna see on there right now so i'm holding off). I have like 12 shows on netflix I wanna see that I have not even started, and I just started on the irregulars, season 2 of the order, Shitts Creak, The Winx saga (whatever that one is with the fairies and the red haired fire fairy girl), Demon Slayer (About halfway through it), Castlevania (partly through season 1), Jupiters Legacy (having a hard time making it through the first episode though), Locked up, Shadow and bone, Mortel, Space sweepers, Alice in the borederland (may give up on that one though), October Faction, Sabrina (in season 2), Hemlock grove (Start of season 2), Locke and Key (barely started), Dark (almost done with episode 2 of season 1), Penny Dreadful (just started episode 2).

Those are the shows i'm CURRENTLY watching lol, there are a ton like lost in space etc that I mean to get back to some year...probably, and others like Better Call Saul that I'm waiting to finish before I watch the rest etc.

I have enough stuff on Netflix alone to freaking watch nonstop for a few months. There are just too many shows coming out now adays to keep up with to be honest, even if I stick to mostly sci fi/fantasy type shows (you'll notice almost no pure comedy shows, documentaries etc at all in there cause I just don't have time for them now).

I've heard that Yellowstone with Kevin Costner is really popular (more like the Sopranos but with a western flavor), which is on either Paramount or another network. Resident Alien, in its first season on the SyFy channel, isn't bad either (though it's pretty quirky), and NCIS (other than New Orleans, which was cancelled) are pretty good too. WandaVision was all right as far as what they did with the old sitcoms but most MCU stuff I see has more of a superficial plotline but then again I'm not a MCU fan. I'm sure that there are other series on regular TV that are just as good, if not better, than what's on the streaming services if you look hard enough.

October Faction

October Faction is stupidly short and only one season long... plus the ending sucks because they never did a second season. iirc, it's based on a comic but I don't care enough to track that down.

It starts really bad but it's kinda okay by the end. It also goes *really* heavy on the woke shit half the time.

The biggest stream in history had 2.4m viewers, doesn't even come close to breaking the top 100 most-viewed television broadcasts in 2020. (The lowest top 100 for 2020 (an episode from This Is Us) was 11.7m viewers, and the highest -- the Super Bowl -- pulled in 102m viewers.)

Yep. I've currently got into a British drama called Line of Duty that's still going. That's aired on BBC that is a TV channel over here. Soaps are also something I watch on a regular bases. I will admit I've got more lazy over the years and just use catch-up services now though as I need to be in the mood to watch TV programs.

The thing with streaming is that you can watch it whenever, you don't need to watch it right when it comes on or wait for a rerun

And most of those tv programs were also available on streaming, the 11-20m initial view for a tv show was likely much higher. However, the point Judg was making wasn't strictly the format these things were being viewed on, but the programming in general.
