Without applying to any. 2 were random reach outs that were specifically interested in my tech background. The third is my former manager. Hes kinda shady and plays a lot of office politics but I heard hes been hooking up folks with a lot of money so its worth exploring.

I really want to line a new job up, use up all my leave and tell my current employer to fuck off after they denied me my promotion yet again. Hoping to get a decent raise too! Wish me luck all.

I have learned the trick to successful interviews is going in slightly drunk

every successful one I've been slightly drunk on. I do not recommend this for anyone else

Good luck.

Get it. But remember that a bird in hand is worth two in the bush...

But three in a bush? Shoot, grab a stick and start swinging

Ive yet to need liquid courage for interviews. Im generally just laid back during. Plus Im not in a hurry to find anything and theres tons of opportunity. Even if none of these work out, nbd.

Nah I went in drunk a few times simply because I'd get there like two hours early and see a pub
I found sober interviews just made me realize how sucky the place is and all the red flags.

im glad i interviewed with multiple companies when i was looking for a job. i thought i was a sure hire with this one company when i saw the ad for my current job. i applied with minimal effort and just before my interview with my second one, i got rejected from the first time.

second job turned out waaaaaaaay better. like, i make twice a much, the commute is better (i can even work from home) and i have a lot more freedom and responsibility.

i say that because usually i focus on one job app at a time. never again.

What do you mean by shady, what did he do you know about, and what the likely/unlikely rumors are.

Yeah I always think its best to line up as many opportunities as possible. So then you have the upper hand when it comes to offers. Im debating applying to a few roles too, just to see how many I can line up.

He over promises and under delivers. Has his clear favorites that he will create opportunities for while telling others he has their best interests at heart. He talks behind everyones backs and doesnt get along with most people. He got fired from my last company because they found out he lied on his resume.

But I was mostly on his good side so he never bothered me and let me work very independently.

What they dont know wont hurt them. Im supposed to come back in September. 2 of the companies are fine with waiting and 1 would rather I start in early summer. So yeah Id have to sacrifice some leave for that one but its an opportunity where Id own everything and build out my own team as the business grows (risky since its a startup and might not)

I'm also using my parental leave to interview with several companies! There's one my old manager is a director at and I think they'll give me a good offer. I had an equal-level coworker go there and get a 24k raise. And this is after getting a 14k raise last november.

I'm pumped.

I think Im going to drop 2 of these. The one with my former manager would have me reporting into someone with no management experience whatsoever (he promoted her to manager 2 months ago) and I am a lot more qualified/experienced than her. Was supposed to have a chat with her today but she canceled last minute. Very unprofessional.

The other wants me to start early summer and given that I have leave with full pay until September, Ive decided I dont want to sacrifice it. My girl will only be this little once. Its a great opportunity but I cant walk away from this time off.

Third one seems promising but unless its a significant pay bump, I probably wont take it either.

Kinda? Like I'm ready to be productive and flex my brain more, but I'm sad to be spending less time with the little guy and nervous about my wife having to watch him that long by herself.

Will you be able to work from home? And yeah its so hard to take care of a baby alone. I have no idea how people do it! My husband started working again yesterday. He works from home but is in meetings most of the day and its been really rough on me. He takes over in the evenings and we split the night time feedings. But its just so exhausting!

Yeah I can work remotely as long as i want. Wow your husband didn't get much time off. I'm lucky my company is an industry leader and gave me 10 weeks off which is pretty insane especially for the dad.

Fuck companies that dont promote loyal employees. Keep at it if the one interview doesnt work out. The only way for higher salaries is to job hop. Loyal employees just get screwed, and employers know it.

Yeah, Im not jaded on this subject at all.

Anyway, good luck.
