I got some powder called cimexa, some bedbug spray called Crossfire and got a couple of bed encasements. Took one application of the powder and spray to eliminate them. I think I went too hard on the treatments but fuck bed bugs, wasn't going to deal with any nonsense

Crossfire is like 40 dollars
Cimexa is like 15
Bed encasements were like 20

Better to waste my money on overkill options than to spend it on an exterminator imo

Look up how bedbugs mate. You probably don't want to do that.

On topic, I had an infestation last year. It was really annoying. One thing I found out worked fairly well was to leave my laptop on my bed and surround it with flypaper when I wasn't there. They hunt by heat, so I killed a bunch of them that way. I didn't get rid of them completely until winter came though.

I've told this story here before but an old apartment of mine got bedbugs because the lady who lived below me was practicing voodoo or something and had dead, bloody chickens scattered all around her apartment and it kept attracting bedbugs even after many sprayings.

My advice is to get an atomizer (spray bottle) and fill it with the highest proof rubbing alcohol you can find and spray everything down.

Sleep at a friend's house if you can. Buy a bug bomb and set it off while you are gone.

I'm really sorry :(

Bedbugs are a true nightmare.

to be fair it's extremely what he should do.

If you live in an apartment complex the landlord absolutely needs to clean and treat all the other apartments too

This is the best answer yet. I was a pest control operator for about 6 years and this is standard operating procedure. Definitely get the bed encasements if nothing else. Be sure and wash all your linens, even couch cushions if you can get the padding out; obviously wash your bedding as well - do all this in the hottest water possible.

literally, anything you do can get them.

I got them after going to the movie theaters. Stupid things got on my jacket. Luckily I took care of em before it got worse. I had an exterminator come look at my house. Then i bought a ton of stuff on Amazon and got rid of them quickly.

The guy that came to my house told me how bad it could have been when i called them to come back and look. It was a constant thing of applying creams, spraying, washing stuff. It's a hassle.

Yet there's another pest control person right above you said that I posted good advice.

Hell, that's basically the main reason why I did all that was because pest control people all around the internet basically said that all they do when visiting people's houses is apply these type of applications to get rid of their unwanted pests. There's good sites dedicated to this sort of stuff, I went to one called https://www.domyown.com/ they basically said any bozo can do this, all you have to do is buy the right stuff and do it your own and read the labels. it's much more cost efficient doing it your own than going to an exterminator.

Besides, I actually did get rid of them on my FIRST try doing it my own with these products lol

My mom had them for years, tried everything she could to get rid of them, they just kept coming back eventually...

Staying at a friend's house is bad advice IMO, because you can potentially bring them with you and spread them to you friends...

The only thing you can do is keep things in a plastic bag (air tight), call an exterminator and have them spray powerful chemicals everywhere. They might recommend heat treatment to for sure kill the the eggs, but that'll damage heat sensitive appliances (electronics) you have at home

I'm not here to start fights, but I don't agree much with the other guy claiming to have worked in pest control, or believe him tbqh.

DEC laws vary from state to state. Many restricted products can't be acquired by your average person, depending on where you live.
And moreso, most people don't follow the label when applying pesticides, which puts them and their families at risk. So even if you can get ahold of the products, it's not a surefire guarantee you're going to do it correctly.

I'm glad you got rid of em so easily, but every household is different, and YMMV listening to randos' advice on the internet instead of getting a professional to do it for you. I've been doing this for 14+ years. If people don't want my advice, and want to listen to the shlubs on doyourownpestcontrol.com, it's no skin off my back. \_()_/

It's not toxic if you get the right kind. Food grade diatomaceous earth is even blended in with livestock feed to keep bugs out of it. The only possible health hazard is if your pet (or you) breath it in because it can mess up your lungs.

i just threw out my couch. Pretty sure I wrapped all my clothes in tightly in trash bags and washed them all later

What do you usually do to treat bed bugs?

Standard treatment is for the techs to drill small holes into your walls and inject either a foam or dust into the void, since bed bugs can and will retreat into walls if they want to get to safety.
You'll then need to strip your bed down to the mattress, put all the sheets and stuff in it into the laundry and dryer on high heat to kill any that might be lurking in there.
They'll also spray the hell out of the bed frame, the bottom/sides of the mattress, and anything attached to the bed with pesticide that interrupts their growth cycle. Probably will end up spraying the baseboards around the bedroom as well as any other rooms you've seen them. You'll also definitely need to get a bedbug cover for the mattress and the boxspring, to keep them from getting back in.

If you DO live in an apartment, the landlord generally will be the one to pay for it. If not, I don't really know what places would charge in your area, but here in NY, it's probably in the $200 region, but any decent company will give you a warranty for 3 months or so, since depending on how many are living there, it might take more than one treatment cuz bedbugs are durable AF (they can go without eating for upwards of 11 months o_o )
