I actually was getting used to modern mode after using it a while and this last update really helped it out and its kinda nice nowbut I hate avatars.

Doesn't the option to display avatars already exist? I've never looked for it, because I don't particularly care for them, but I figured that was added when they added avatars. Of course, adding avatars but only making them visible in people's profiles would be the GameFAQs way to do things, so...

Having avatars actually makes it look less shite. Those look real small though. The problem is this site is cramped and the new style hasn't fixed that. The avatar space should be bigger and also the space between posters. I just compared here to a manga forum I visit and its glaring how scrunched and outdated GFaqs looks.

Space between posts is dumb. I deliberately set usernames to be to the left of posts because having them between posts just meant it took twice as much scrolling to get through a topic. The alternating colours of the current scheme do a perfectly fine job of delineating posts. Adding space to help with that is completely unnecessary and just makes reading topics that much slower.

Forgot to say, they made the topic list much better than it was before. I just really dislike avatars though.

It meant the same separation bar guess I didn't word that good. The name/colour bar space is too small thats why the avatars look like shite too. Why even bother with them if it's that cramped. It looks ugly. That said I dunno what you're using if it takes you long to scroll down a page. Twitter has massive posting space and scrolls very quickly. They recently removed the dumb cropped look on uploaded pics and it's even more space now. It looks infinitely better. I don't like clutter so the more space and streamline I see the better.

Personally, I prefer posts to be divided - it makes it clearer to tell at a glance when one post is different from another. It lends clarity and doesn't really slow down reading multiple posts in a thread at all for me. Whenever they set things to default to user names on the side, I just moved them right back to the top again in my settings.

Then again, I'm still running the v13 skin because I think every visual change they've made since v11 is for the worse (and I'm only running v13 because they don't offer v11, and I kind of dislike the oldschool v9 that everybody else used to love). So it's possible that what I'm seeing isn't really what other people are seeing.

If anything, that's my main concern for the new beta - I just hope they don't scrap being able to run alternate skins entirely, because they're basically the only way I can use this site at all without wanting to jam forks into my eyes. The "everything has to look like a mobile site" aesthetic these days is horrible.

A scroll wheel, mostly. It's not so much that it takes a long time, it's more that I don't like it taking longer than it has to when there are acres of unused space to the sides of posts (well, I guess there are normally ads there, but lolads) where usernames and other largely-useless information can be stored to keep them out of the way.

Basically, if it can be more efficient, it should be, and any change that makes it less efficient is dumb.

On default v13, posts alternate between the background colour (with a border) and a slightly darker grey. I find that (combined with the line break after signatures) to be enough to clearly differentiate posts. I agree that having some delineation is important, but taking up any more space than there currently is would just be wasting space (unless, of course, posts are made to be all the same colour by some idiot who doesn't understand sensible website design, but that's a reason to yell at the idiot who doesn't understand website design, not to add superfluous white space).
