As I'm sure some of y'all know, I spent the better part of a decade working on a hack for Final Fantasy VI called Brave New World. For the last two years, I've been moving on to a new modding project: Heroes 3. It's widely considered to be one of the best strategy games of all time for those of you not in the know, so I really had to step up my game to give it - what some would say - the "Brave New World" treatment.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, I have a beta for it ready and publicly available. Just let me know and I can post a link.

Here's an endorsement for the uninitiated - Brave New World is a legit gamechanging FF mod and a lot of fun. Definitely recommend it and I'm sure the M&M mod will be quality if BNW is any indication

As of this point, there are five playable maps. Random maps should work with no issues, but I have not yet edited any of the campaign maps - these are mostly functional as-is but they may contain invisible (and unusable) artifacts or dummied-out skills. I would suggest avoiding them for now.

If you're new to the game, I suggest Divided Lands or Old World as good maps to learn on.

So I don't really have a good attention-grabber for this like I do with Brave New World's esper system, but there is one idea that has piqued the interest of everyone I ran it across.

I was looking at Logistics specialist heroes trying to figure out how to make them less quadratic and then thought maybe a Logistics specialty should instead be a bonus to the speed of the slowest unit in the army for the purposes of movement point calculation. And then I thought maybe that's just how logistics as a whole should work, with specialists getting double the effect of the skill.

You're thinking of HotA and no. HotA, as much as it rebalances things, is still an added content hack. This is strictly a rebalancing endeavor - the only thing that approaches it being a content map are the revised/new maps and the new hero portraits.

(Also they're a bunch of assholes when it comes to sharing information)

Not sure off-hand who hero you're talking about is... the hero portraits were the one ugly part of an otherwise-beautiful game.

Short answer about Heroes 3 is that it's one of those games that is very well-liked by anyone who's ever heard of it. The only thing that keeps it from being one of the most popular games of all time is that a lot of people just haven't heard of it or only know of it in passing. For some reason it caught on a lot more in the east than it did here... at any given point of the day, the entire population of Russia is either playing or watching Heroes 3.

I'm a huge fan of Might and Magic but not really Heroes. Age of Wonders is so much better that I can barely get into them. I guess I've only really tried 5 though. I want to try playing them through, starting from 1, but haven't got around to it yet and not sure 1 would even run.

2 was a great game, but 3 was the all-time unbeatable classic.

Been doing some cleanup in my code since this got posted and I found a few artifacts that don't have the correct stat bonuses, but nothing really major (i.e. gamebreaking) so far.
