Something I'm curious about...did anyone actually buy ammo from the merchant? It seemed like such an outrageous ripoff that I could never bring myself to do it. 150 for a single handgun bullet when you need like 5-6 for a single enemy did not seem worth it.

oh yeah, I bought all ammo possible from the merchant whenever he had it. I mean, during the factory bit I always had like 100k to 300k dollars, so the ammo felt relatively super cheap

I guess I always wanted to spend my money on upgrades, so it never felt worth it to set myself back like that. Plus it felt like the game was programmed such that I always had just enough ammo from boxes/etc.

I dont know if I actually needed to do it, but I definitely did buy basically all the available shotgun ammo my first time through

I had a lot of extra rifle ammo, so maybe if Id used that more I wouldnt have a problem.

During my first run, I only bought recipes and inventory space upgrades. I didn't upgrade a single weapon - saved it all to splurge on an infinite magnum. I found there to be enough resources to craft ammo, even when playing with base-level weapons.

Just finished it. Absolutely loved it!

I agree with what most of you have said in this topic.

The Village was an amazing setting for the central hub and I thoroughly enjoyed unlocking more and more of it as the game progressed.

The castle was the highlight for me! Very reminiscent of the earlier games. My only complaint about this section is that Dimitrescu didn't stalk you for that long? I first noticed her after leaving the "face" room on the second floor balcony. Was that the same with everyone else?

Beneviento's area was really well done. Very creepy and the lack of weapons made it more tense. However it is probably one area that will suffer on repeated playthroughs as I can't see much change in gameplay, even on higher difficulties.

As a whole, Moreau's area was prob the weakest. In fact I can't remember much about it except for the part you're trying to realign the windmills with him in the water. Incidentally my wife watched this part briefly and said it reminded her of the boss fight in the first chapter of Darkside Chronicles when you fight the fish thing as Leon and Krauser. Which it kinda does.

The factory was solid, got turned around a few times which is an aspect of gaming I actually enjoy. Probably went on a little longer than necessary but still enjoyed it! Slightly underwhelmed with Heisenberg boss fight for the reasons others have mention.

The Call of Duty section. I bloody loved it! Such a refreshing change of pace, and it's understandable in context too. I must admit, I was still playing Chris part conservatively until I found the first ammo dump then realised what the developers intended for this part lol.

I must admit overall I found the game too easy on Standard. I only died from instant deaths (the Spiked rollers/Moreau in water etc). Looking forward to the challenge the higher difficulties provide.

Fantastic game, followed on strongly from 7!

One thing that has appeared in Resident Evil of late - I first noticed it in Remake HD (can't remember if it was in the Gamecube version) - is the map telling you when you have cleared a room or not.

To me, part of the reason that made the early game locations so iconic and memorable is the fact that this feature didn't exist. So when we are stuck on a certain part of the game we had to go through all the rooms again and again on the off-chance you missed a key item until we knew the place like the back of our hand.

In some of the most recent games (including 8) as soon as the map is no longer red, you can leave the room and forget about it for the rest of the game. It seems like this was just created as an anti-frustration feature for newer players to the series.

It may just be me, and it probably seems like a small gripe, but I would at least want the option to turn it off.

It actually was in the original GameCube version surprisingly. With how REmake and Village does it at least, you still have to actively search for the items in the room. RE2make literally shows you where the items are which is like dumbed-down to the max.

I agree that an option to turn it off would be best or to just not have it in Standard (or Hardcore) difficulty & higher. I'm someone who would almost never need to use the map in the OG REs and now I feel like my finger is glued to the button. To not use it is to just handicap yourself for no real reason. I admit it scratches a certain OCD itch to clear every room 100% but it definitely feels like it bashes you over the head and calls you an idiot in the process. If it ultimately gets more people into the series so be it, and at the very least it still doesn't hurt the incredible level design, I still think it's extremely memorable and easy to find your way around if you want to go without the map.

Just finished it. First half definitely is better than the second. And tonally, it was all over the place, although the individual sections were cool. Not scary though, not like RE7. Duke is the MVP, Chris is an unreasonable idiot, but his section was fun. The entire Heisenberg section is stupid culminating in the stupidest boss fight in the series.Good stupid though. Still feel like Mia got off way too easy considering almost everything was her fault. The ultimate Umbrella connection was kinda lame. Still constantly hiding Ethan's face even at the end was bad stupid. Also, SURELY someone would have noticed Ethan was a molded during the many medical check-ups I assume he had following RE7? Interested to see what comes next, a 20-year timeskip or something more recent explaining what happened to the BSAA. Well, after the super obvious RE4 remake this game was designed to rip assets for, of course. Also, we're starting to build up a lot of characters with super powers now.

Well as someone already posited, if Rose is basically non-crazy Eveline++, that scene may only be a few years later.

Also, besides the obvious regenerative powers through magic juice in the first place, even when Ethan gets his hand chopped off in this game there are no obvious physical indicators that there is any mold in his body, so as far as leaps in logic are concerned it doesn't seem super impractical that whatever tests they ran couldn't detect anything.

I am pretty sure Rose was born naturally. She might have gotten some of the mold shit from Mia while in the womb but that doesnt mean she's exactly like eveline.

Way dumber. The fight itself is plenty silly, but the set up is the dumbest part. It would have been better and made way more sense if Chris and his team had just brought something with them to counter Heisenberg's magnetism, like an EMP, but instead, Chris just happens to find a special little tank that Heisenberg built specifically out of metal that Heisenberg can't control which he built for seemingly no reason whatsoever. Which means, after blowing the factory, Chris had no plan whatsoever for dealing with Heisenberg afterwards before finding and fixing the tank.

Updated series hierarchy. I do not actively dislike any if these games. In fact I have fond memories of survivor and gaiden. The outbreaks are bottom of the pile by virtue of less play time. This ranking can change almost on a daily basis (or at least every time I play one of them)

RE2 > RE1R > RE4 > RE2R > RE1 > CVX > RE8 > RE5 > RE3 > RE3R > RE7 > RE0 > Rev > UC > DC > Rev2 > RE6 > Survivor > Gaiden > OB#2 > OB

I haven't played the below games but judging from comments/reviews, they'd all be below OB anyway.

Got all the achievements and unlocked all weapons.

First person RE kinda peaked for me here. I'm all for another one, and I'm curious where they will go next, but I think I'll always prefer third person/over the shoulder. I consider myself to be big fan of the series, but not mega fan or anything like that(Haven't played every single game in the series, and while I like the lore and characters I wouldn't be able to tell you much on how everything 'connects' nor would I ever do a deep explanation) If that makes sense? Love the series but I'm not super hardcore into what everything is going on.

RE4 > RE2R > REmake > RE8 > RE5 > RE2 > RE7 > RE2 > RE > RE3 > RE 6 > Rev1

I'll probably grab RE3 Remake on the next major sale. The length of the game kind of turned me off from getting it right away. I also have Rev 2 but haven't gotten into it yet outside of episode 1. I consider RE4 to be the best game ever made, so the thought of the remake has me drooling, and I know Capcom has been on a roll, sort of a renaissance period for them, but the back of me head still has the lingering thought of messing something up.

I did about 4 full playthroughs of 8 to get everything unlocked. So after everything has digested, the game does have some little pacing issues throughout. It starts slow, then ramps up, and it kind of continuously does that throughout the game.

Castle > Village area > Morneau area/factory > Benevento house. Even though you can speed through the house, the slowness after 4 playthroughs is apparent and while I like what they were trying to do it does loose the luster after multiple playthroughs to the point where I felt like I just wanted to get done with it. I did get eaten on the 4th playthrough and the fetus said "yum yum" I'm pretty sure. Which got a laugh out of me.

Outside of minor pacing issues, my only complains is the puzzles. Majority of them were laughably easy, the piano one was a joke because you basically just had to keep pressing until you got it right. The only one that I spent any significant time one was the music box. It took me a while to realize the key was the scratches.

Slowly working my way through getting S ranks on Mercenaries. On Castle 2 at the moment.

Unpopular opinion time - this is my favourite version of Mercenaries. This is because I'm crap at the traditional version. One of my biggest shames is never getting the handcannon on 4
