I dont know why, but when I realized what fez was I was instantly turned off. Insanely obtuse puzzles just isnt what Im interested in any more. I got to the village of people all talking in glyphs and just noped out. I dont have time in my life to worry about this any more.

Kind of weird as I love the witness, but something about the controls being slightly frustrating to get around making it hard to easily backtrack really turned me off

I skipped most of the obtuse stuff and just enjoyed the easier puzzles and the platforming.

The standard puzzles in Fez are great but the extra stuff is definitely less than the sum of its parts

What? The puzzles you do to beat the game are all pretty easy. Only the extra stuff is "obtuse"

It honestly confuses me that they keep re-releasing Fez, the whole point was the community of players working together to solve the really hard stuff. Thats already been solved for like 10 years.

Hitting the town of everyone speaking a different language was definitely my breaking point. I dont mind not doing extra stuff, but the game pretty clearly wanted me to decipher what they were saying and I just was not interested in doing that with how clunky the movement was.

I just think backtraveling being that hard was a deal breaker.

I had no idea that's what Fez was about.

I played Fez for the first time a couple years ago and had fun with it, I didn't know about the community aspect of it then either. There's basically three levels of puzzles- the first batch you can 'beat' the game with is fine, the second batch can get very difficult but is generally doable by figuring things out that you find elsewhere in the game (I had to look a few of them up just to give me hints on where to get started), and the third batch is a handful of ridiculous impossible ones that you absolutely need to look up. But the second batch is all you need for the 'proper' ending, anyway.

IIRC the different language thing isn't even necessary, I don't remember translating it at least.

Yeah i looked up a few things at the end to be a completionist but it is absolutely not necessary unless you're really into it. The base puzzles by themselves are good enough for the game to hold water imo
