RE:V isn't even remotely as hyped as MGSV was. The memes certainly came hard and fast out of pretty much nowhere, but there were people who were turning MGSV into a borderline religion before it came out.

By "hype" I mean activity/response/relevance in the community. Memes = people are talking about it.

MGSV easily. RE Village didn't have a ton of hype as far as I can remember, it was just highly anticipated.

Unlike MGSV, it actually lived up to my expectations.

MGS4 and Peace Walker were the end of the series.

Yeah, there were so many more variables that made MGS V more interesting. One, the graphics looked insane at the time, especially the textures, it was ages since the last MGS game, so people were getting hyped and finally it was Kojima's game with Konami, so there was that. Not to mention it was the first open world MGS game, so people were interested on how it turned out (like peace walker 2, I guess).

Re Village just looks like RE 7 for the most part, a heavily scripted first person survival horror game and I feel like MGS had a bigger fanbase at the time, although it is hard to say because interest for that series is pretty much dead now, given Konami's treatment towards it.

Looking at Google Trends. RE 8 defeats, Phantom Pain, but the hype for Ground Zeros was off the charts. I guess everyone played it and were disappointed, then did not care as much about Phantom Pain.

If you use the video game search for phantom pain, the outcome is different.

I bet it was less hype and more controversy around GZ since it really was a $40 demo

Ah, you are right. I don't know what the heck I searched for. Must've been the search term and not the video game because the phantom pain is even bigger than ground zeros now. So yeah, MGS V hype way bigger than RE Village confirmed.

Once Google Trends recognizes Resident Evil: Village as a video game and not just a search term, we should try this search again.

Yeah, you are right. It is a bit of an unfair comparison. To be fair there is quite a bit off popping off even from the search terms, so it may give MGS a run for its money possibly. Probably should've compared search terms to search terms, but ,eh, I don't care now. Only time will tell.

That could be misleading too, though.

I don't remember all that many people using the full title for MGSV at the time - I saw "Metal Gear Solid V" or "MGSV" waaay more than I remember people using the Phantom Pain subtitle. For most people, Phantom Pain WAS MGSV, and Ground Zeroes was mostly just a playable prelude.

With RE8, I haven't actually seen a lot of people CALLING it RE8. Most people just seem to refer to it as RE:Village or other similiar variations.

its honestly a shame that character is practically naked the entire time, because its an amazing character with genuine depth

but instead she is just perceived as the booby soldier woman

She was designed as booby soldier woman, then had story tacked on that didn't even justify her design. There's a difference between "Design her so that she uses sunlight to make her powers work" and "Make her look erotic."
