The game is just so fucking GOOD!

-There's 2 60-hour campaigns that are completely different from each other with tons of different characters to use

-For a PS1 game, the graphics, sound effects, and music are awesome! Firing your gun with your mech into an enemys always so satisfying >_>

-There's tons of customization for your mech and you can swap out various legs arms and chassis between mechs you've captured and each part grants certain skills you can use in battle

-The turn-based strategy gameplay is always engaging and there is a ton of variety in enemies and maps. You fight stuff from mechs, tanks, helicopters, turrets, subs, snipers, and more.

-There is an extensive side activity where you can access a fake internet between missions and go to dozens of websites that detail the history of the world, the current politics and conflicts between various counties, and read and answer individual email for each party member, as well as secrets like black market mechs you can buy, training maps, or artwork if you can find passwords from talking to locals in the various countries you visit.

-You can also change your background of your computer to fun images such as a crude crayon drawing from a party member's toddler daughter, a photoshopped animal pic from a conspiracy site, a cute policewoman saluting from the police site, or your step-sister in a bikini from her university site if she wins a swimsuit contest >____>

Oh man, you're making me want to jump back into this. One of my all time favorite games. I must have gone through both storylines at least 3 times each over the years.

If you can, I would highly recommend looking into playing Front Mission 4 and Front Mission 5 on the PS2. 4 released in NA, so getting the English version of that should be straightforward. 5 never released outside of Japan, but there's a very good English translation for it, made by fans.

The games are mostly standalone. I would start with FM3 though. FM2 is very good, but it was Japan only and fan translations for it... aren't ideal.

I think they're all good. A lot of people didn't like 4 but honestly it's an alright game. I would put 5 on par with 3 or right behind, very solid and the fan translation that's available is excellent. The DS version of the first game is also solid.

Heck, even Evolved is a lot of fun if you don't go in with any expectations.

Also which route in FM3 is canon? I know when I played Emma's route Alisa dies but Lukav is also stopped. But I heard in Alisa's route Alisa lives but Lukav also escapes.

Nah man, Front Mission 5 is Scars of War and it was great. It released in Japan only, so the only way to play it is with a fan made English translation (which is well done).
