Great to once again revisit the world of NieR now looking and playing better than ever before. For reference the original NieR was my 23rd Platinum GET and Automata was my 147th. Final time was around 70 hours and my character level was 50

For the most part this is that PS3 game at its core with the graphics completlely remade, the combat overhauled to actually be fun, a new 5th ending, a new scenario to play through in the 2nd half of the story a bunch of new costumes and weapons from automata thrown in. The DLC from the original is also built in to the game so you can hop in that and play as Papa NieR in those combat arenas any time after your initial playthrough.

Brother NieR brings a different vibe to the story, but I didn't think it was any better or worse than playing as Papa NieR. Going from a well mannered kid to an angry teenager was definitely a bigger change though than just getting an eyepatch like the original did.

The platinum itself is mostly similar to the original, but it brings in some new trophies to accommodate the new content. The grind to max out all the weapons is still just as long as it used to be, but the DLC weapons and new weapons are additional weapons outside the total count so you can pick and choose to a degree which ones to upgrade and ignore some of the more annoying weapons to fully upgrade. Other than that you're still completing 100% of the sidequests, getting all the endings, and beating all the bosses under certain time limits. Also that 15 hour speed run for an extra playthrough!

Excited to see whatever Yoko Taro does next, but it's almost time for RE8 so time to shift my focus to that :O

Did you manipulate your system clock to grow the Lunar Tear, or did you go full mad lad and do it in real time?

I did manipulate the clock, but you can't quite do it as easily as the original version

You can change your timezone from one Samoan time zone to the other Samoan time zone to skip ahead 24 hours, but then after that you have to wait another 24 hours in real time to get the seeds.

Took me about 4 or 5 days to do it all.

So how is this game? I liked Automata but I am not sure for this one. For once no female upskirst main character.

The game is still strange. It takes time getting used to the camera styles switching depending on the area you go to.

It is mostly a "hey, here's an homage to X," but it can really mess with you if you aren't prepared for it.

The game's mood is Kino's Journey. Aka, "What fucked up depressing vibe can we do with this plot point?"

The actors, visuals, and especially music are great. Worth digging into.

Played it yesterday for like 14 hours straight (finished all quests in part 1)
And yet

I don't really dig it
Main game is pretty fun but side quests suck and it was 80% of the time I spent yesterday doing. I know there is no reason to do all of them, but I still did it for completion sake

The intro was also pretty terrible, very repetitive and long (playing on hard, the enemies are tanky)
Then all the running back and forth between Popola and whatever destination you had...

Anyway, boss fights are fun. Environment is great (I really liked Facade). Music is not as good as Automata but still nice
Giving you a chance to teleport ("wrap") would have made the game so much better

I am well aware it's my fault for doing something I don't enjoy and complain about it

I just wish I could have enjoyed it. Fast Travel would have made those side quests a lot more enjoyable
