All right, I've gone as far with Juro Kurabe as I can in 13 Sentinels for now. Kyuta Shiba being an artificial personality of Juro Izumi trying to assimilate himself with this Juro blew my mind all over again. I remember seeing a scene between Juro and Amiguchi from Amiguchi's perspective and thinking it was strange that Shiba wasn't there, but now it all makes sense.

Shinonome is the only character available to me now.

I just use coins every round during bosses and you'll usually get healing from one of the Toads if you need it. Don't think I ever got a game over playing Origami King!

Okay, I was able to unlock Megumi's route after doing some fighting, and we have another artificial personality. It certainly makes sense for "Fluffy" to be fake, but is he also 426/Juro Izumi, or is he another fake? It's hard to keep track of everyone's ulterior motives!

But now I'm able to continue with Fuyusaka's route, so that'll be next.

So I get that wishing Goku and Krillin back would cause them to materialize where they died, but couldn't you just immediately use your second wish to transport them to Earth? Also I'm pretty sure it didn't work that way when they brought Goku back the first time...!

Use coins all the time because you'll never run out. You only need to use 100 or so per round.

Anyway, Iori Fuyusaka's route in 13 Sentinels complete! I don't know what the heck Universal Control is or what "time period" Sector 0 is supposed to be. I kind of figured that most of the people here must be clones if they keep resetting every time the kaiju kill off everyone, but I wasn't sure if any of the people left were the "originals." I guess the game is trying to deal with the question of "If they have all the memories of the original, are they the same person or a different person?" so you're not meant to be able to tell if this is the original or a clone. Or I suppose "If you change a person's memories, do they become a different person?" is what we're dealing with in Kurabe's story. Either way, it's pretty great.

I did once. It was upon trying that battle arena thing on the open water too early (I'm already lousy on the names of places). I went to the open sea there earlier than you were supposed to and found it and died to the Paratroopa.

All right, made it as far as I can with Kisaragi in 13 Sentinels. So we learn a bit more about Universal Control, which is essentially what that UFO is. It controls people's memories and actions so that no one ever really learns the truth and takes action if anyone knows too much. As such, Miwako just got erased from existence, which sucks. I like her character.

Time for some more fighting.

I actually got a PS5 recently (and managed to sell my PS4 for about half what the PS5 cost me (with tax), so it was quite a bit less pricey than it could've been!). Played through Astro's Playroom, which was surprisingly good! It has some issues (motion control sections...), but it's just pure furn to play. I love how happy it is! Probably the funnest game I've played this year.

Also played through the indie RPG Omori. Was good stuff! Only on PC right now, but coming to consoles. Has a good emotional storyline focused on a group of friends, and some neat game mechanics that tie into the storytelling. Always nice when games manage to link the two together.

Just watched Moana for the first time. My wife wanted to watch it to get hyped for our Hawaii trip. Pretty good movie. Enjoyed the performances by Moana and Maui (always been a big Rock fan).

I decided to pre-order the Famicom Detective Club games, which come out this week. I figured they'd probably be some good plane games to play during the flight to Hawaii.

Made it to another lock in Keitaro Miura's route in 13 Sentinels. So Yuki is Minami's mother in "reality." I guess it makes sense why the clone Yuki always says that Minami is the only person she cares about now. Also, I suppose Universal Control just removes all the incompatible people from a sector once the kaiju start invading, which is why we never find any other people in post-invasion sectors. Also, Gouto put Morimura's memories in the little girl Chihiro so she could carry out Operation Aegis, so he at least appears to be on board with the plan.

We can also play as Ogata again, so here we go.

And now I've hit a lock with Ogata. So he had the original D-Code key that was calling the kaiju, but then it got transferred to Minami. Izumi is trying to stop the key from falling into Okino's hand, and I'm kinda conflicted here. Izumi has been presented as a bad guy most of the time, but I definitely don't trust Okino at all.

I can finally continue Hijiyama's story after a long time, so let's do that.

All right, cleared the first area of battles in 13 Sentinels. Got S ranks on all the waves, which was cool. Don't know if it'll be that easy the rest of the way, but I'll take it!

Speaking of Platinums, I saw the trophy list for ME Legendary Edition, and they took Insanity runs off as a requirement for each game's Platinum (there's still a trophy for it, but it's in a "general" trophy list). It's like they did this just for me because I'd have probably gotten Platinums in ME2 and 3 if not for that Insanity run trophy!

I've often thought about doing crossover fanfics with Ace Attorney where Phoenix has to defend heroes from other games in court. My mind always goes to Metal Gear in particular because it makes a certain amount of sense, but I feel like there's a lot of potential in something like that.

But if you ever want to read some good FFVII or FFVIII fanfics, I can point you to a couple I always really liked!

Yeah, honestly the one that had the most promise of the handful I've read a bit through on this (current) whim was an AU where the small town Ren was from and had to leave was Inaba and the timeline got shuffled a bit to have Nanako tag along as a second transfer student incensed at the injustice of it.

but then the romance-leaning stuff kept overtaking the writing and bringing down the concept imo

When I say I've had the good fortune of reading a few really good fanfics... I'm talking like a number I can count on one hand lol and has definitely skewed my perception and standards. Come to think of it, romance is basically absent or very much background in those... might be a lesson there. (Which is a bit of a shame given that I myself also like shipping a bit too much for my own good) Maybe another "can count on one hand" group a tier below that that generally have the problem of just going off the rails entirely after an otherwise good start.

But as a quality control measure I generally restrict myself to ones that have TVTropes recommendations/blurbs that sound okayish (better than nothing) and/or generally a sort by favorites on FFN or AO3 to try and - theoretically - be looking at the better ones.

think this movie takes place before the events of dbz, but it makes no sense canonically since it largely follows the same plot beats as the battle with raditz
