I'd be fine if the entirety of the show was 10-15 minutes of Weekend Update.

It went way downhill. It was sort of like the WWE in a way: WWE/WWF used to be great in the 90s and early 00s, but once all the big name people left, it just got boring, forced, and recycled until its not the same thing. I dont even fault them for it because they worked with what they had and the best talent is retired now. They cant force these guys in their 50s to get out there and keep doing it and having them appear as managers just isnt the same. In the case of SNL, some of the best talent has passed away.

The best snl is the snl you grew up with. I grew up with late 90s and early 2000s.

I think we just hit the age where that becomes our favorite part. I remember thinking it was the worse part, because I had no insight on the topics. I didn't give a fuck about politics, I was into partying andtl talking dumb shit. I still talk dumb shit, but a lot around it changed.

A lot of SNL relies heavy on you knowing what's going on in the world.

Pretty much, outside of a few unicorns with certain guests who bring things up a notch the vast majority of episodes are like 1 to 3 actually funny bits and then some okay stuff.

part of the problem is that its just a vehicle for the actors to spew their political opinions. Seriously, do you not have Twitter? We only have a certain amount of time, so how about make some jokes?? Politics used to be part of the show, sure, but not 99.9% of it.

Weekend Update is still pretty good.

Current SNL doesn't have a lot of reoccurring sketches though which I kind of miss. They had more room to hone them into better material through that. So now you're stuck with all of these random bits every week that sometimes land and other times don't.

Imo, weekend update died when jimmy fallon and tina fey took over. That's about the time I lost interest in snl

When SNL used to rerun on Comedy Central and E!, it was cut down to an hour for a reason (and it wasn't for time).

It's usually pretty damn funny and watchable as long as the sketch isn't political (yes they've always been political). Ever since Trump, the sketches that are based around politics are just so fucking forced, edgelord, and ham fisted it's not at all funny. Alec Baldwins Trump is the most unfunny recurring bit I've seen them do.

And I fucking hate Trump and his cultists.
