people say the same thing about running a cash register or working with burning grease all day.

people just love to hate on labor.
With the cash register you have to deal with hundreds of people every day. Do that job for a year and youll eventually lose your faith in humanity and start to root for Thanos.

unemployment with the extra $300 pays way more than someone making $15 an hour. any of these jobs hiring under $15 an hour have no chance of hiring people. even with $15 an hour cost of living is way too high and pretty sure people on unemployment can get food stamps and rent assistance so they keep most of the money they get.

target hires at $15

Asterisk needed. Granted I haven't followed closely since their announcement, but I believe you are correct in that Target gave people pay bumps or start out higher due to the pandemic. However, Target being a greedy retailer who relies on people taking things at face value and doing no research after "good thing" is announced, they slashed hours, and many people ended up making less because they were working less. Target ended up taking down their FB ads promoting this because the comments sections were FULL of employees calling them out for cutting hours after raising pay. So someone who was making let's say $10/hr @ 40hrs/wk gets bumped to $15/hr and is now working 10-20 hrs/wk, tops

I worked there for 5 years and nobody said anything to me. Our dept moved closer to the manager's area and the last few months he had a problem cause I left like right on the dot or a minute after my typical 8 hours of office work. I had no reason to stick around unless someone needed me. Plus he never said shit to other office workers not to mention I'd get to the job typically 5-10 mins early. So yeah fuck him. I live in a small town and if I come across him and he says something to me I'd verbally tear him apart. I pretty much called him uneducated in my resignation letter.

Are you sure about that? A forklift operator (basically the easiest factory job I can think of) makes between $14-20 an hour. Are you saying you have a job where you can make $80 an hour or that you can easily get one?

Teenagers never seem to join up, but the work is pretty tough. At least at the factory my mother works at. Lots of heavy machinery and lifting rather hefty stuff all day.

Depends on what the factory does and the positions. The ones I had teenagers walking out on was at Shutterfly lmao. They were literal button pushers, very little physical labor involved. Same when I was at a sensor/transducer manufacturer, no heavy lifting or muscle needed, just boring af and repetitive. But of they can stfu, show up on time, and sort parts for 8 hours they were making $36-$40k/yr with full benefits and no experience needed. that's not bad at all.

I was very good at my job. Did me no good to bullshit someone only to have them quit a few days later. I was very frank and basically told them "its not fun, you can't come and go as you please you have to work your shift. BUT if you can show up on time and do the job ill keep you as long as you want to be here, we don't lay off good workers (which was true)"

Tall order lol, they'd rather go goof off with their buddies in retail

Yeah it's those lazy bums I dislike (not referring to the pandemic). And even if you slightly helped these people it wouldn't be enough. They want like a million dollars cash upfront to be happy. Sadly they'd blow the million on shit and say not enough. How about working to earn it???

You aren't getting double or triple the minimum wage around here in any job. $7.50 is minimum wage or something. So factories, gas stations, Walmart, dollar store, and everything else pays the same. You aren't making over $10 an hour starring at any job around here. After a few years you might get up to that.

I work in a factory. It's basically a last resort type job. If you have other avenues of employment, take them. Your hours can and likely will fluctuate from 8 to 12+. You might get "suprised" with your orders/quota being double or even tripled which means you may not have a day off for weeks or even months working 12 or more hours a day.

Here if your particular area is doing good and has no outstanding orders on say a Monday they may place you in other areas to pick up the slack, which can last for weeks. By the time you're done helping other areas your original area may have a surplus of orders so you have to bust your ass to catch up.

As others have said the pay is abysmal and not worth it, unless it's all you have available to you.

Unless it's some super complex job that's going to be largely impossible.

Robots don't need PTO. They don't need to take leave. They don't run up your medical insurance costs. They don't complain about sexual harassment and sue the company. They don't click on phishing emails and cryptolock your entire network. They don't make racist posts on twitter. They don't stage an insurrection at the capitol while wearing your company's badge. They don't need to be trained or given an office. Etc.
