Shit, I almost turned in to one of those people because one of the NijiEN girls was definitely one of my fav indie VTubers and almost outed them. Needed to vent somewhere but glad things ended up good for her on that front.

realistically, I probably won't end up watching any of them, I have enough stuff (streams and other stuff) competing for my time already. that said, elira said she likes ikuhara anime and I literally paused in the middle of a penguindrum episode to watch the debuts so I'm pretty sure that's like fate or whatever

I saw a lot of people beforehand saying they were cheated out of debut stream time or complaining about the schedule being compressed but honestly their debuts were way better than most hololive debuts are and I think part of it is because they didn;t need to awkwardly fill a bunch of time

Pretty much 100% sure Pomu Rainpuff is Mint Fantome/Maid Mint who was forced in to a rather sudden retirement earlier this year. All her videos are gone aside from 2 memes and she hardly had any clippers though.

I kinda wonder if they made an effort to pick people for nijiEN that knew some jp or if it just kinda turned out that way by chance. well, it's hard to say from just a bit of chatting during debut stream but their jp feels more natural than holoEN's (except kiara that's kinda cheating)

Elira is doing a guerilla stream right now and talked about how she's not accustomed to streaming or adjusting her model yet, so at the very least I'd say she wasn't a VTuber. But yeah, I think they got people that were actually familiar with Japanese, at least enough to converse with the JP audience a little.

Sorta, it's a different organization basically. Nijisanji has a lot more VTubers iirc, but they don't follow the "idol" motif generally.

I gave them both a quick watch, they seem ok, just a bit boring. I'll keep tabs and check back with them in a couple months when they grow into their new roles. elira has reine vibes

Nijisanji is actually bigger than Hololive in Japan, they just havn't been as successful on the global market compared to Hololive who put a big emphasis on catering to foreigners for a long time now.

That's where I kinda disagree. Sure there was less dead air but they didn't really show off anything that was particularly unique to them compared to HoloEN or HoloID Gen 2's debuts. Though I suppose that's what the second intro streams are for (or in Finana's case her first intro stream)

This is true. That said, Elira seems to be doing well on the guerilla just geeking out over anime and running on pure adrenaline. She seems legit hyped to be getting praised so much for her singing skills lol.

For me that seems to be putting the cart before the horse. A fun fluff piece like this would be great if it came out for niji en, 4-5 months after their debut after people already were familiar with them and were invested in the characters and the "lore" was built organically via what was said in streams vs boilerplate stuff written by niji writers beforehand.

Not a lot to go on from those debuts, but I like them. Ill end up doing what I do with everyone in Hololive, watch any stream under 20 minutes and any interesting clips I come across as I gradually fall out of the rabbit hole.

I can kinda see where you're coming from but imo it mostly just results in thinking they're awkward and nervous (which is true for all of them lol and I doon't blame them either) rather than really learning anything particularly interesting about them. then you can get more personality in later days with chat streams or games streams or whatever when they're not just thrown out on stage with no idea what to do with themselves

like, I legitimately think every holoEN debut was straight up uncomfortable/unpleasant to watch (no comment on holojp debuts in that sense since I didn't catch any of their debuts live) but the nijiEN weren't and personally I think a big part of it was the timeslot they needed to take up

imo, the NijiEN debut streams felt rushed, like the girls were trying to go through their material asap because they didn't have enough time. They should've given each half an hour at least.

The commentators on the main channel were genius actually. They even turned a bad situation into a wholesome campaign.

Yeah the main channel commentary was a good idea, and everybody loves Hana (well I haven't watched the whole thing so no clue if she stuck around the whole stream). I didn't realize each of the girls got so little time. It's just a bit bizarre that after all this time of prep, that's all they really had to show. Not that HoloEN had some crazy debuts per se, but they had way more of a build up and more of an actual stream that currently has a ton of legacy views.

Aside from worldwide appeal, even in Japan nowadays I think Holo has become a bigger presence. The thing is, in streaming scene, ultimately you reach a higher peak by appealing globally anyways. In Japan, a person they'd consider a top ranking streamer pretty much caps at like 2-3 million subs on Youtube. When you think about people like Pewdiepie, for example, who literally have 100 times that, it's just not even a competition. I've also noticed this with Korean league streamers, where a person would be undeniably the most popular amongst Koreans, but they absolute pale in numbers compared to popular western streamers who regularly have 10-100 times the viewership.

It's just population diff in the end lul. I mean there was a clear reason Cover had a hard time letting go of their Chinese viewership. As much as the Chinese viewership was still tiny compared to Western/JP support, the potential was extremely large, and the language barrier was a slight bit less strict. But China has never been a huge factor in streaming success from experience. It mostly has to do with their censorship and it becoming a huge barrier to casual viewers

At the time, they actually weren't that tiny, many of them had comparable subs on bilibili and youtube and some even had more on bilibili

I never realy got the impression their actual chinese branch was very big (though I could be wrong) but hololive was quite popular there

I guess by tiny I mean compared to the overall population. They were still much smaller than Western viewership, too. Bilibili made a lot of effort and did support several of the talent, sure, but looking back, it kinda feels like only 4-5 girls ever got any notable attention there. I think only Suisei and Aqua ever got to go on their show or something. But right now, it's not like they're doing bad financially because they lost Bilibili money anyways, and a great majority of them never got much from Bilibili to begin with. I did look at the membership long before the whole thing came crashing down, but it was literally Fubuki, Aqua, Suisei, Marine, and there's like a huge drop off where it was obvious why most of them never did Bilibili exclusive streams lul.
