Sold out the identity of the party to include poor uneducated white people to win an election now those people have taken over the party and only want Trump or someone Trump tells them to like.

No other Republican stands a chance at office unless they pander to these people. Which means they have to act like a crazy moron all the time now or their political career is over.

If I am Mitt Romney, I am looking to switch parties ASAP.

They would have played themselves if their voter base had any standards or shame whatsoever.

Unfortunately, I doubt we'll see any long-term consequences for the Republican party.

Trump's base isn't poor
The people who only care about tax breaks for the rich aren't Trump's base. They're not storming the Capitol for him when the whole corrupt party will give them tax breaks.

The stereotypes about poor rednecks being Trump's most fervent backers simply isn't backed up by the facts available
"Owning" a small business doesn't mean they not in the red and in debt.

That woman wearing a God Guns Trump shirt is definitely a dumb redneck.

The notion that Trump's supporters are all nothing but slack jawed yokels without a pot to piss in is an outdated one. It costs money to travel to DC, rent hotels, fly in (some with private jets) or bring their 5th wheels, etc.

These people are in government, law enforcement, business owners, military or ex-military, teachers, they come from all walks of life.

Most trump supporters are people who benefit from white supremacy, which is why cops, business owners (and their families), and rednecks are all included here.

Sure, just use the capitol riot as an indicator of his entire base.
We also have exit polls from the election, which suggest that Trump did best among people making over 100k

Now, maybe there's an argument to be had about Trump performing better relative to Romney among the working class, but it's certainly a hazier picture than the stereotype.

The biggest knock on them imo is they decided to make things that shouldn't be political, political. Taking the proper precautions for covid and taking the vaccine should've been a no brainer. But they picked it as a hill to die on. Their base will follow them. If they had picked the right stance at the start or not blow it up into a "controversial" issue it wouldn't have become like this.

That's what makes me laugh about it.

Republicans are controlled opposition who secretly agree with establishment democrats on a lot of things.

is an outdated one

It never was correct. People just love a nice narrative and ran with "rust belt revolution" after 2016. It was immediately clear that it was an improper characterization.

Trump's base is rural America because he gave them a voice when everyone else ignored their cries. Rural American is dying, thus these people are not only not rich, but also deeply in debt. You could say they are in worse financially than the poor.

Trump said he will decide whether to run after the mid terms, which means he will run if the Dems eat shit. It will be interesting to see if that possibility can motivate a higher than typical mid term turnout but I somehow doubt it.

This. Basically, us in rural America are a bunch of fucking suckers who believe anything you tell us if you say the right words and make a racist ass of yourself, and we'll never amount to anything. I'm sure that's what you meant to say, anyway.

Considering the actual voter repression going on in the South, I'm doubtful that the Dems will win the midterms. I'm actually pretty worried.
Yeah, this is absolutely scary. The Dems in DC need to put their foot down and reestablish voters' rights for all qualifying individuals, but of course, the GOP would just fight it tooth-and-nail.
