Just came out yesterday I believe. Hearing very good things, so I'm starting to hope Spiderverse wasn't just a fluke over at Sony.

No but I also hear very good things and have been looking forward to it for a while. Apparently some of the writers and creatives from Gravity Falls were involved. Probably gonna check it out tonight.

It looks super cool if only for not adhering to the typical bland as hell Disney/Dreamworks/etc. popular GC animation style

Kind of but not really? It's by the same studio and Miller and Lord are producing, but the main writers and directors are people from Gravity Falls, and the animation director from Spider-Verse is absent (he actually is working on a movie called Master for a different studio).

Also Alex Hirsch was a creative consultant, so the real in is just yelling about Gravity Falls very loudly, as I am doing now.

Had a delay but finished Spiderverse vs The Lego Movie.

I think I may like it more than either of those movies?? It's tough for me to nail down in Spidey's case since I'm comparing a film based on an established property I'm familiar with versus an original.

It's difficult to convey just HOW TIGHT the scripting of the jokes and humor in general are here. Everything pays off, no matter how minute. Also, as should be feared in any Sony property, I was super worried about how many jokes would be tied to product placement. There is only one major "product" represented in this and boy does it ever justify itself.

Last note, you know how Wralph Breaks the Internet had a bunch if meme culture jokes and that movie was super cringy and awful and is better left forgotten? This is the exact opposite. Every reference to a real world meme, if which there are many, is justified and most importantly funny.

Man that was great. It's a pretty typical family movie in a lot of ways but the execution is just on another level. And the animation is some good shit.

Yeah this is my major takeaway. They take really obvious concepts like "haha boomer dad doesn't understand computers" and just kind of...hammer at that joke until it is as sharp as it can possibly be. The energy it has is genuinely inpressive.

Just finished it, it was a lot of fun! At first it was a little annoying with how "memey" it was but it really levelled out and all the characters were extremely likable and endearing.

No, I didn't even know about it but I will now.

Was on my radar for a bit. watched most of it last night and the rest today. Gotta say the memes were actually a worthwhile inclusion in this and that just about all the jokes were good. The family stuff was alright and expected, but everything else was a trip. A solid 9/10 for me.

Just finished it, honestly enjoyed it more than most recent Disney/Pixar outings. Really really fun and cute, and SO many animation flourishes.

I watched it now and it was pretty good.

How similar is it to the trailers? I'm sure it's "good" but the tone is definitely more childish than SpiderVerse or even the Lego Movie. Is the trailer playing up that aspect to get asses in seats (it's very typical trailer humour), or is that kinda what it's like.

It's interesting to see comments about how "tight" the joke writing is - i would not describe the trailer that way at all, but maybe there's more there in the full movie.

I don't think I've seen any trailer other than the reveal back when it was called something else. There were definitely plenty of hard hitting emotional moments. It's right in-between Spiderverse and Lego Movie in that regard.

I though the trailer was pretty bad, but that's like every movie trailer, especially for animated movies.

That said if you're worried that the movie might be too childish... I mean, it's a kid's movie. It's very childish and silly. But still funny and fun to watch.

There are some cringey parts but also a lot of laughs so pretty solid.

I do think they were a little too generous towards the dad considering he is pretty much consistently 100% in the wrong but it didn't really take me out of it. My fiance loved the movie and said the dad felt almost too real so I can see how it would strike a bad chord with some people.

eek, I tried watching this a few days ago and stopped halfway through because I thought it was horrible. I guess my tastes compared to the general consensus are way off on this one.
