Scotch. Once you develop a taste for it, nothing else compares. None of that Islay stuff though. Sorry Ron Swanson, Lagavulin tastes like a good whisky poured through and ash tray.

My main go to is blue moon. I have to stay with beer because if liquor is my go to I'd probably be dead by now.

This and Gordons London dry gin used to be staples of mine when I was a heavy drinker in my 20s.

When I drank, I liked cheap vodka in private and nice gin in public.

I'm a pretty frequent drinker (probably not the best thing). Each type makes me feel different (liquor, beer, wine) and I drink different types for different scenarios.

Usually I drink wine if I want a nice, warm feeling and want to "get there" relatively quickly. This is usually a scenario when I expect to only be drinking for a few hours. Drinking wine for an extended amount of time will get you extremely drunk and put you out of commission unless you really intend to pace and drink slowly.

Beer is when I plan to be drinking for an extended amount of time (5+ hours). Normally this is during a day drinking/leading into night drinking type occasion like a party or visiting Vegas or New Orleans. A seasoned drinker can drink light beer all day and still be in commission (for the most part).

I generally don't drink much liquor, especially by itself. I don't do well with it. I get extremely drunk and pretty quick. The hangovers are terrible, too. If I drink liquor, sometimes I will start with only one or two liquor drinks and then switch to beer for the rest of the night. Or occasionally accept a shot if I'm drinking beer.

As far as rum goes, I recommend trying spiced rum. There used to be this really good brand here in Australia called Buckeye - it had spiced, silver (clear) and regular rum. It was like $34 a bottle, which is dirt cheap, the bottle was simple and kinda cool and the spiced rum tasted delicious.

My favorite type of alcohol is gin, though. I can get shitfaced on gin, but it takes a lot more of it to put me down and it's the sort of drink that helps me to facilitate my own feelings. Like with some drinks, I might dig up some old history and get angry about it, or I might feel slighted and end up lashing out at people because I get more and more angry over time. With gin, I get mellow and I stay mindful of myself and my surroundings.

The thing about gin is that it pairs very well with citrusy flavours. That's why you have gin and tonic - because tonic water is a very zesty, citrusy beverage. That's also why people drink gin, lime and soda - it's just gin and sparkling water with a wedge of lime in there. The citrus pairs well with the gin, and it's one of the most low-calorie drinks you can order.

Beer overall by a mile. From cheap macro like Miller Lite to $10 a 12 oz bottle stuff. Beer can have a steep learning curve though. And youre going to traverse a lot of calories to get to the promised land. But I harp on beer since it has an extra buzz all its own that Ive never gotten from liquor or wine.

With liquor, I think whiskey is king with bourbon at the top. But Irish whiskey is great for a soda highball.

Beer (IPA) is my go to, but scotch whiskey is my favorite. I drink both like water though, so I try not to drink whiskey to often.

I can slam a bottle J&B like a 2 liter of mountain dew; it's not good.
