I definitely try to do first runs of new games with only new Pokemon, but then I like going back and playing through again with old favorites. And it's definitely nice seeing them in there for variety even if they aren't favorites. I was never on the "They must ALL be in EVERY game" side because that just gets more and more ridiculous the more they add, but I very much support including a few hundred each go. Going only new Pokemon would kill replayability, especially as we're likely to see more duds with every new gen as they keep trying to come up with new ideas after 1000 Pokemon.

Picked up this game yesterday and am definitely enjoying it. There's been some pretty cool levels so far and I believe there's still several I haven't seen.

I like the idea of having different star categories for each pokemon though I do wish you could submit pictures from different star categories in the same run. Seems like that restriction might make some of the collecting a bit tedious, but the gameplay is still good so whatever.

The edit photo feature is really cool, at least for a first time playthrough. I don't know that I'd be making use of it if I played through again in 5 years or something, but at least initially it adds an extra layer of fun and creativity that I'm enjoying.

I also appreciate that there's a bit more to the scenario than just Oak handing you a camera and sending you off. It's not so much that it gets in the way or anything, but it makes the game feel a bit more grounded, I guess.

Edit: Oh also as far as length goes, I'm about ~4.5 hours of playtime into the game (possibly padded a bit messing around with the edit photo feature), and even as far as completing all the courses it doesn't feel like I'm any more than halfway, possibly a lot less than that. As far as completing everything goes I'm obviously not even close to that. So a lot more content than the original and the gameplay is still just as fun to me at least.

I just got to the Beach and Reef and man, the Reef especially is gorgeous as hell

Some of the levels in this game are actually really cool. I especially love Elsewhere Forest. Reef was also one of my favorites.

Finished the story earlier today too. Curious whether I can figure out how to get all the remaining Pokemon just from the hints on the requests or not. Guess I'll see how I get on and Google it if I hit a wall. I feel like I took photos of a lot, but there's still a ton I missed. Dunno how bothered I can be to get all four photos for each Pokemon though, let alone getting diamond stars for them.

And yeah, this game is hella pretty. Well, as long as no humans are on screen anyhow.

Here's a question.

Let's say I have a 1* picture of Scorbunny worth 4500 points that I took on the Night Course. Naturally it contributes 4500 to raising the level of the Night Course.

If I submit a 1* photo of Scorbunny on the Day Course that's worth 3,000 and its my first time submitting Scorbunny during the day will it contribute points to leveling up my Day Course? Or will it do nothing because it's worse than the picture I already had on file for that slot?

My assumption is that the game is smart enough to treat it separately but I haven't seen any good way to know for sure which slots I've done on both Day and Night or which slots I've only submitted a picture on just one or the other.

So when I'm submitting a 2* Bidoof on the night course I might gain 50 points by barely beating my previous attempt but I could have gained 3,000 points if I'd remembered tray I'd never submitted a 1* Bidoof on night and submitted one of those even though it might have been clearly worse than the Day picture on file.

Right?

Now that people are finishing it, I'm wondering how many areas are there in the game? Like proper full environments, not just day/night or the illumina stuff. Thanks!

Assuming there isn't some surprise new area after the credits roll, the number of areas is 12. I definitely feel the effective number is higher than that though with things like day/night or different routes within the same course.

Oh cool, that's higher than I expected. The night/day stuff does look cool but the one different 'route' I saw in the stream I watched seemed like 10 seconds long, I guess that stuff gets more elaborate as the game goes.

Pretty much yeah. I mean I guess you could always store the extra in your Album and keep track there. They really should have included the option to view your best photos per course.

Also, is it just me or is the high score feature completely useless? Just tells me I got an arbitrary score with no context for how I got it nor whether its any good or not.

Do you mean the course score? In the original game I think the formula was (Sum of best pictures of each pokemon)*(Number of separate types of pokemon photographed). I would assume it's similar here though I don't know for sure.

Edit: I take it back looks like it was (sum of all pictures)*(# of pokemon), not just the sum of only the best pictures? Not 100% sure here either I guess

Just got the end credits, still have 30 pokemon to discover (although I know 10 of them, just haven't gotten them yet)

I get too bogged down in the requests. So I have sunk a lot of time in, but am only just unlocking the volcano. Some of these requests are a pain to figure out.

I've sunk 40-50 hours into the game and I think I've only finished like 40 requests or something.

Of course I've mainly been chasing high scores on the course score leaderboard rather than focusing on completion, but still.

I have Florio 99% completed, in terms of all requests and Diamond rankings on every photo. The only thing I haven't diamonded is 3 star scorbunny.

I finally maxed the research level on a few routes and was disappointed to find out that nothing actually changes in the route once you hit max. Was hoping for another variant.
