Yosuke was one the one with the cut romance option so they probably intended for him to be in the closet. Also most male teens are a bit homophobic.

When someone acts noticeably afraid of something even when that thing is very unlikely to happen (often caused by a traumatic event in the past), it's typically called a phobia. Yosuke was very vocally wary of Kanji even though he's not gay, all because of his Shadow.

I basically just ignore all the guys (Yosuke, Kanji most of the time) and just make an all girls team of Chie, Yukiko and Naoto. The dudes in that game are terrible

yosuke is the true self-insert character in the game. You can see a lot of him when you reflect on your own character from middle/high school. Mostly of embarrassing memories.

I havent played 5 yet, but the leaps and bounds between P3 and P4 are insanely high
